I have a mk3 Jetta with the 2.0 aba and a manual transmission. The shifter has a lot of side to side play and I can't seem to find a guide on adjusting the linkage. The shifter bushings have been replaced recently and did not seem to fix the play.
shifter tower on the trans. parts wear down. check there. also the cables ends and the clip is also plastic.
pull the shifter tower out the top and inspect for extreme damage. they all do
Did you replace the relay ball when you replaced "linkage"? They have a rubber outer sheath that wears and falls off creating a lot of slop in the shifter.
