I've heard it makes shifting even more notchy. I haven't been able to try it for myself because I can't get the fvcking nut off the tranny lever to install mine.

Grease-wise, I used plain old white lithium grease. I didn't need much of it but it helped me pop in the big orange bushing into its bracket.

i'm doing this soon also, just waiting on a replacement shift lever, i'm installing a weighted shift rod along with the short throw kit. anyway, as far as greasing, the bentley says "When assembling, remove any white grease from the linkage and lubricate all joints and pivot points with molybdenum disulphide grease (Volkswagen part no. G 000 602)."

I was just curious what he had against them. A short shifter is very nice, I have one for a few years now. The Neuspeed one has 30 and 50% reduction. At 30 its nice, at 50 its very notchy. I am running it at 50 reduction now since I added the shifter weight. The weight really smooths things out. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Some people complain that they have some trouble finding gears but that is more likely beacause the shifter bushings are worn and the linage need to be aligned.

Maybe he was implying that you need grease for everything, but as far as the short shift kit goes you don't have to bother with any lube.

yea i did all the bushings on my car and used some valvoline synthetic grease (black thick crap in a can). like everyone said, it helps get that orange bushing in, and if you dont grease things up soon you'll be squeeky and stiff http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

do you know if this works on a3 2.o manual trannies as well? I used to get these kits for my A2, now I could use one for my A3, I think its a similar tranny design. Any ideas?

The rebuild that I got from the dealer had the orange bushing pre-lubed with the molybdenum grease already installed in a new bracket, and a package of other rubber bushings for the rest of the linkage - $48 total i think.
