I'm a little ticked. The garage didn't look at my gf's Jetta until 4:00 today even though an appointment was made 4 days ago. They haven't been able to diagnose it yet, and they said it might be the half axle which would cost $535 to replace. Is this a reasonable cost?
Re: Should replacing a half axle cost $535??!! (the flying grape!)
NO!!!!!!!!!
Dam unless the shop rate is like 200.00 an hour.
An axle should run $80.00 to 100.00 Rebuilt and labor should only about 1hr to 1.5 hrs. That should be fair. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Avoid sub-par re-man'ed CVs. Spend the money on new parts and do the work yourself. If you have no tools at all, you could buy them and still save money.

If it's good, the half shaft/axle itself it reused, the CV joints are all new. If it's poo, they might reuse some CV parts, or just use crappy CV parts.

Brand new axles with new CV's from Techtonics Tuning run 300 for each side. 535 is ridiculous. Adirondack sells remanned ones for 100 plus core. Definite ripoff at 500+.

I know this reply isnt about a VW, but my friend has an 87 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, and he has replaced his CV shafts at least 5 times in the past year and a half. Let me tell you, he's saved oodles of green by doing it himself. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
