I have a VR6 transplant in a Jetta coupe. Everything runs perfectly. I have a general question. My car idles and cruises b/w 210 and 225 degrees. I am sure this is fine. My question is: At what temperature does one start worrying(250, 275,300?)? Can someone give me their two cents worth. Thank you very much. Oh yeah, one more thing: I also have a 1991 GTI w/ the 2.0 16V. It operates the same way...is the "worry zone" the same with this car? Thanks again.

Re: Simple question! Simple answer?????? (sharmon)

Both the 16V & VR6 are HOT!!! running motors, espically the later in a A2!!
But you are asking more then likely because you've done no repairs in the last while, and ware wondering if u will have to?? The usual checks for working thermostat & w/pump as well as no debris on rad or internal clogging.
Have any of these been re&re'd lately? If not start there first.

Oil temp or water temp...well, the problem is that an A3 gauge cluster with MFA is installed in the car. It shows me oil temp, which is the temp that goes from 210-225F. The gauge in the cluster always seems to be in the middle. I am not sure it is functioning properly. Is there an aftermarket gauge I could install/have installed to monitor water temp?
