Re: since there is no search...AUdi TT brake install how to... any body have one? (KEITH)

It is easy. Just remove front tires, take nuts off the calipers, remove the screw holding rotor and remove rotor, exchange the carriers and rubbers (clean with some brake cleaner, put some disc quieter on your new pads(if changing them(you should)), put everything back together...boom!...big brakes. I hope I did not leave anything out???

Thats what I thought it involved but it seems easy. I only have a 1000 miles on my pads, should i still swap the pads?

TT kit is super cheap from parts4vws.com. under 500 bucks and you 12.3 inch rotors that fit perfect.

You can keep your pads if you like. They will work fine. But some other pads might be better as far as reducing brake dust. A lot of people run Mintex (I've used Ferrodo myself, thats what http://www.parts4vws.com would probably recommend) and some have said they like the new EBC green stuff pads (but I've heard these can chew up rotors; I'm guessing due to heat, so the 12.3" rotors might be able to hold up better since they have more mass to distribute the heat) Supposedly EBC may have a new compound that is more rotor friendly too. All hearsay of course. Call TireRack and ask them about the EBCs since they sell them. They're supposed to be sticky and have very little dust. If they really DON'T chew up rotors, then those are what I'm leaning toward putting on my Mk4 (the Ferrodos were on my Mk3).

Cool.....$500 is a good price for a good brake upgrade. When the time comes (i.e. the turbo is around the corner), I'll probably spring for this...
While we're on the subject, do the MkIV cars ('00) need the Mintex pads with or without the sensors on the front?

Check out this link for pics and directions: http://people.mn.mediaone.net/jbipes/newttr/ftrotors.html
The directions are for upgrading the rotors on a TT, but it's the same process exactly. I bought the TT kit from http://www.dieselgeek.com for $390 bucks. (Rotors, caliper carriers, and pads) Get the pads with sensors and if you don't need them you can snip the wires off.
A few tips on the process:
Make sure you have a #3 phillips head screw driver and a 7mm allen wrench. Buy some brake grease that is OK with rubber for the sliders. Don't let the calipers hang on the brake lines when you unbolt them, use some rope or wire to tie them up to the strut spring to keep the tension off the lines. Another good tip is to use a 5" C Clamp to compress the caliper after removing the pads.
The whole proces should take well under two hours. After that go easy on the brakes for 300 miles or so to let them break in.

I just did the install Monday. Very easy. You will need a 7mm allen wrench on a 3/8" drive, and a 18mm socket to take off the carriers. If the rotors are stuck (one of mine was) you will need to spray some penetrating oil around the hub and smack the rotor close to the hub with a rubber mallet. Great upgrade. I can honestly say that pushing the brake pedal is almost as much fun as pushing the gas pedal. Good luck!
