I just got my GTi and it came with a trial of sirius:thumbdown:! I have had xm for years and want it back. Can you have xm activated through the car's integrated head unit?

Nope. The sat radio module needs to be swapped out. You need to either switch with someone that has XM or buy an XM module altogether.
OEMPL.US sells the modules and offered an exchange program at some point I believe.

perfect. thanks man http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

No problem. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Just be aware that the module is expensive if you intend to buy it. You're likely better off finding a local MkV owner in your area and requesting a swap.
The great majority of 06 cars appear to have come with XM (that's what I have and don't use it) so finding someone local shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Sirius to XM? (auburncj)

Hey, my GTI had sirius factory when we purchased it. However, my dad was getting an 06 BMW 750Li with XM radio in a few months so he wanted to switch to XM for the family plan. My local dealer switched the hardware and although it took them 2 tries, it now works completely problem-free. I believe the hardware switch was somewhere in the range of $300-400.

Note that VW switched to all Sirius in 2007 (better financial incentives), so there may be some demand for XM modules out there. I happened to find an Audi dealer on eBay who sold me a Sirius module last year for about $300. If I get the time to take the effort to figure out how to get the XM module out of my car, I may eventually have an XM module to sell, but the OP is better off trying the eBay or OEM.Plus route. The bolts for the module are deliberately set upside down to make it difficult to steal.

OEMpl.us does it for a final cost of $50 plus shipping, though apparently on hold for the moment. Check it out at http://vw.oempl.us/product_inf...3c0fb
It's a good deal.

Re: Sirius to XM? (akuska)

My dealer swapped mine in 10 minutes.....XM for Sirius. Four bolts and two plugs was what I was told. I believe (and I might be wrong) that the module is under the pass. seat in the GTI. I have also heard the trunk but that may be Jetta/Passat.

Re: Sirius to XM? (vw4ross)

little heads up. when you slide the passenger seat back there is a cover on the floor. take out your mat and slide the cover forward (towards the front of the car) without lifting up. the clips are flimsy plastic and they bend easy (trust me). thats all. happy swapping
