My black, unpainted side skirts and lips and I was cleaning them with water and more than normal car wash liquid. There are discoloration streaks that are kindof a blue color on them. Anyone with this problem??? What do you do to keep them shiney or just clean. Any other care info wanted!

Re: Skirts and Lip Cleaning and Maintaining (Guvs97JettaGT)

I use Mother's Back-to-Black on my 2001.5 Passat. It makes the black plastic & rubber trim look like new again. You can find it in a red bottle at just about any decent auto parts store (AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc.). I rub it in with a crappy old rag, let it sit for a minute or two, and buff out with another rag. It should remove (or cover up... I'm not entirely sure) any discoloration or old wax residue. Don't forget the rubber around the windows and the antenna!

Re: Skirts and Lip Cleaning and Maintaining (DrewD)

My 16V flares were streaky and turning gray instead of black. I used liquid kiwi black shoe polish [yes shoe polish] and it worked good. Learned about it in this forum. There is also something called "Forever Black" which I have heard works good but I couldn't find any locally so spent a whole 2.99 on the Kiwi and It worked out just great.
