SLC TT Exhaust Install...

466 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  NVmyVW
If any of you have done this yourselves, I'd be interested to hear experiences. For example, how long is the job, tools required, etc.. I'm ordering (what seems the standard at this forum) the TT/borla system and I'm considering doing the install on my own if I have time..
Also, anyone found good uses for the old rusty OEM exhaust?

I have installed a few exhuasts before and the only hard part is removing rusty seized bolts. Usually you will also need somthing to cut the exhaust with (to remove it from over the rear axle).
I just received my TT with borla from Peter at thescirroco.com and will be installing it shortly. should be a piece of cake with the ol' plasma cutter

So, is it essentially a bolt-on deal? Is there any welding involved, other than a custom tip?

Yup, its easy... Like CorradoCam said, the most difficult part is getting the old stuff off. The new parts shouldn't take anymore than 1/2 - 1 hour. You MIGHT get lucky if you drop the rear suspension and not have to cut anything off. My friend got lucky in this manner with his MK3 GTI.

You shouldn't have to weld anything except for a custom tip.

20 minutes, then about 5 to cut the extension on the muffler so that the tip[ fits right...
I had to cut the old exaust off in two places to remove it, it was trashed no use for it.
ps i used a lift. and had the aid of a torch with jacks and ramps and wrenchs oid say a good hour
