Well at least this is what one lecturer told us in class! According to him, you won't find it listed in any annual reports but VWAG owns a majority share in Porsche.
Anyone got some accurate and reliable information to help me show him that he is mistaken?
Does seem to be a common misconception, seeing as how closely linked the two companies are and cars that have been jointly developed:

Porsche is a privately owned company, and one of the few in the car world.

I could be way off base on this, but aren't some of VW's Execs (or former execs) Porsche family offspring?
If thats the case maybe they "personally" own stock in Porsche, but the Corp. VAG does not. Perhaps he's a bit confused

No, actually its publicly traded. Its just independently owned (not part of a larger corporation). Similar to Honda and BMW.

Supposedly, a kid in my fraternity's father owned 7% of Porsche. He hasn't actually said this but that's what I've heard... His father definetly owned some, as he will admit that.
Oddly enough, he drives an M3. No word on the father's ride.

Actually, I think Piech married into Porsche family.. But also, I believe he may also be the one to own the majority (if so).. Which could lead to the confusion, since he is the exCEO of VWaG..

In what sense?
Lotus has consulting group. Which works with other major auto manufactures.
Other than that, Lotus is completely independant company just like Honda is.

Anton Piëch, Ferdinand Piëch's father, married into the Porsche family. Aton Piëch married Loise Porsche, the daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and sister of Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche. Louise Piëch was the head of Porsche Austria GmbH.

In the sense that they are owned by Proton (I think thats the right one, don't quote me on it) and aren't independent.

Lotus is Owned By Proton that is a asian company...Lotus has partnerships with many automakers to help them develop certain areas or products for cars.
Lotus almost went under and proton saved them...lotus is now a profitable company thx to the big bucks proton gave them for development.
