Folks, after owning my GTi VR6 for nearly a year I finally walked in to Wellesley VW in Wellesley MA and traded in for Galactic blue 2002 GTi 1.8t.
It has 17inch tocata wheel with Good Year z-rated tires. They threw mudflap and all for $20720. In return they are paying off my current GTi loan and I actually qualified for better APR, 5.39%. So my payment went down about $38/month.
I am loosing self-dimming mirror, leather and climatronics but I can live without those! I like clothes seats better anyway
They even offered me to replace my mods for free (brembo rotors, rearsway bar)
Anyway folks, as much as I loved my 2001 GTi VR6, I want to mod my car to go really fast with relatively cheap price.

Sale guy showed me around after the deal was sealed. Him and his coworkers are all VW enthusiasts themself. My sales guy had intake, catback and everything. So anyone of you from Boston area, I do highly recommend Wellesley VW.
Anyway, Sorry my fellow VR6ers. It is just that I cannot ignore the fact that 1.8t is 20v engine as verse to 12v of vr6. I was thinking about waiting for 24v VR6 but it will be so much more expensive than what I am purchasing. Afterall All I want to do is Chip, Catback and lowering.
So I need to start reading about turbos now. I have no idea about the engine except it makes that psssssssssh sound when I step on the gas
I will take some pictures when I pick the car up on Wednesday

Got mine 2 weeks ago, just broke 700 miles and loving every minute. What options did you get? I opted for it all...
Heated leather is just amazing and the girlfriend likes it very much...
I cant wait to wake up and drive to work.

Not only are the Tocattas very nice wheels (see sig), but because VW doesn't spec them on any production cars (like say the Long Beaches), there is still exclusivity with a cool OE look. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Can't wait to see pix.

Yeah,my next will be 1.8T because cost much less than current VR6.I will wait for next generation.I don't make a lot of $$$ so I can't change cars every couple of years.

Hey man! Congrats on the new car!
Where around Boston are you? I live on the wellesley border, and i hang around at Wellesley VW all the time... was there today, i bet i saw what is now your new car. That place is so cool; great ppl over there, very relaxed, and a real nice parts department. Im planning on getting my black/black gti 1.8t very soon.
Again, congrats. If you live near wellesley, dover, natick, needham, westwood or close by tell me. congrats again!
actually, i know exactly which car u have. there was only one blue w/ toccatas i think. also, the people there are into mods as u said. if you look at the cars they own (blue jetta w/ some tasteful stickers, rims, intake/exhaust etc, silver jetta w/ intake and exhaust, nasty mathstick gti w/ rims, eibachs, etc, yellow s4, and debagded A4). Good stuff! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

good luck with the new ride http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yeah I loved my GTi VR6. It was tough decision but analyzing the way I mod my car and what I wish it to be, I am better off with 1.8t. I wished it was silver. Love silver but I guess I will have to learn to like galactic blue now.
I got cloth seat, moon roof, mud guard and new indash CD player. I prefer my GLX indash CD. Tocata wheel looked nice too. I will have to learn to like them honestly tell you though. Z-rated tire looked awesome though.

I am in Waltham now. Yeah Wellesley folks were very nice. Yes, I think you saw my future car
I was very hesitant about the color but I think I can learn to like it. It looked black at night
and it will be dark blue during the day, I thought that was neat.
Yeah, sales manager, Thom showed me around the service area and I saw the yellow s4 and other VWs they drive. Saw a red 1.8t with eibach pro spring, and in fact I was considering Eibach Prosystem but since they promised me a good deal, I will go with Eibach pro spring from VW.
I still can't believe I walked in today and made the deal. Never thought I was going to

Congrats on the new 1.8T. I have never seen Tocattas on a GTI. Checked them out on a previous sig and they look sweet on the Jetta. You didn' t get screwed on trading in such a new car? Usually you take a hosing when you trade in something so new.

hey good luck with the new 1.8t http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif . nice to hear of a dealer that actually has some sanity about after market parts. i would go the same route as you when i'm done with my jetta except for a few things... after 10 yrs of drivin vw's i'm never going to buy one again due to the stupid dealers in nj, the stupid problems in mkIV's (maf, window reg, o2 sensor ect) that vw will not address, and the stupid fact that for the $$$, the performance of vw's pales in comparison with other cars in it's class...don't know what i'll buy next but i'll guarantee it will not be a vw (or a honda..heh)

Andy....
Ohhhhh Noooooo Brother, i thought i had a VR6 buddy here. Well i hope it was worth it to you to switch over. I would like to save for the HPA Turbo for my VR and get the 300+ HP. So what are you doing with your Up Chip? moving it to the Turbo? how does that work out?
