I can't keep anything in that little cubby hole underneath the radio. It comes flying out and lands somewhere under the seat.

Hmm, seems like you've gotten yourself into quite a pickle. The only thing I would suggest is that you take out your chip and ship it to me immedialty for testing. LOL. Congradulations.

I would recommend installation of a retracable monitor connected to front and rear mounted high res cameras so you can see what your catching/leaving behind. You should mount said monitor under your radio thus deleting the now dangerous storage pocket, I would also recommend removal of anything else that may cause injury inside the vehicle, such as female passenger's undergarments, cell phone etc.

L.A. traffic is an easy -- and natural -- fix for that problem.

I'd put Northern VA traffic up against your LA traffic.

Triumph, what chip did you end up going with and who did the mod?
Did you try UNEK Motorsports in Woodbridge?

I got the Upsolute from them. Mostly because of the price. The extra $175 isn't worth a few extra ponies to me. I had a spare ECU and gave that to Jesus at Unek, he had it done a day and a half later. Good shop, they do honest work.

I'll second that, Triumph! And thanks for the tip on UNEK; as a brand-new (42 days) Passat owner I've been looking for good shops. Know of any that are closer to Bealeton or Sterling (work)?

Yeah, UNEK is my primary shop and I highly recommend them.
I like Upsolute's VR6 ECU programming but for the 1.8T's, I normally recommend GIAC or APR. If you are running a 1.8T, did you upgrade your Diverter Valve as well?
If you work in Sterling, you might want to give Curry's Automotive a shot. They have an excellent reputation but their prices are on the high side; especially if you supply your own parts!!

I didn't upgrade the diverter. I'll do that if and when it breaks.

Exactly why I don't like them. Go look at their stickies in the Mid-Atlantic forum. Their "group buy" prices are as cheap as other people's individual sales.

Thanks! Curry's is just down the street from our warehouse, and on the way home. I used to use C&C with my Chevy pickup (they're very good), but they have trouble dealing with VW's, especially newer ones. And I haven't been chipped or upgraded the diverter valve - yet.

looks like I am following you (one step behind) from tech, to Pitt (in Moon now), and hopefully to Fredericksburg soon. At least if I get back to va, I know who to try for the chip

Remember, the stock diverter valve is designed to handle 6-8lbs of boost, where an upgraded one will easily handle the 12-16lbs of boost after chipping. Ask Jesus or Orlando about the Forge or TurboXS DV's...

Good luck with Curry's, both my neighbor just have up on them and I stopped over a year ago. The last straw was when I had an oil change and literally there was oil all over the lower half of my engine. Oil cap fine, oil filter fine, drain plug still in tack, I could not figure out what they had done. Went back and everything was on correctly, sorry but got the look of what would you like me to do about this?

They cleaned it up and I haven't been back since. The M5 next to me appeared to be getting plenty of TLC.

Funny... I just got chipped (1.8T Jetta) from Unek just this morning. UPs + TurboXS DV. Unbelievable. Amazing power gain and wonderful shift points (Tiptronic).
Sonny did it on mine in less than 30 minutes.

Another http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif for UNEK (Jesus/Orlando/Sonny)!
