I have a '96 Golf GTI VR6 and want to go with a 225/40-17 or 215/40-17. I have ABT 24's and there 17x7.5. Need to know if it'll fit before I buy tires.
I have Koni adjustables w/Nuespeed race springs for a drop
any pics would be most helpful.
Thanks

On a 7.5" wheel I would use a 205. But, if you must go wider, the biggest you will be able to use is a 215. Depending on how low you are and how stiff of a set up you have, you may rub with a 215. Minimal wheelwell modification may be needed to clear this problem up- depending on how low you are. Hope this helps.

I am running 17X8 RH ZW2s with 205/40/17. But I needed some serious arch work.

why would you wanna run a 225 on a 7.5 inch wheel?

One of my friends had 17x8" rims with 225/35/17 tires on his golf. He sold the car and then sold the rims to his buddy with a Corrado VR6. They fit ok on the golf even with a drop of more than 3"

Well I have a 205/40-17 now. THat's what's on it. The correct tire size for a 7.5" rim is 215. 225 is just a half in wider. Wider is better.

Here's the car with the 205/40-17's. Not the best pic to show, but it's all I have at work. The 205's are to narrow even just looking. Just wanted really to know if anyone else runs 215/40-17's. Thanks.
edit: It's the red one. hehe sorry
