First button is the interior motion sensor switch. Ideal when you have someone in the car but want to lock the doors (deadlock activated). Second button sets the alarm such that it doesn't sound when the car is being towed.

Was it mainland China or Hong Kong that was getting the Mk Vs with the Mk IV engines?

I coulda sworn I saw pics of a Jetta V with some weird chinese name and it had a Mk IV engine... think maybe the 1.8T.

China.
The Jetta MKV in China is called Satigar. It uses the old 2.0 and 1.8T engine. They can't use non-turbo FSI engines because of poor fuel quality. MKV GTI in China uses 2.0T, the same 2.0TFSI engine as those GTIs in NA/Europe. And ... all their GTIs are directly shipped from Germany ...

The spec of MKVs in Hong Kong are similar to those in UK.

And all Golfs in Hong Kong are either from Germany or South Africa.

1.8T is an awesome engine and may even be stronger stock for stock than the 2.0T FSI. The engine parts that is. Forged internals etc.
