Whats involved with this?? Can I order just the hood scoop from Subaru?? Then do some custom fabbing to get it into the hood or does someone make a hood like that??

From what I understand the best thing to do is get the whole hood and cut out the whole scoop area. Have a body shop cut that same hole in your hood and weld and smooth the scoop in....
Apparently it is a pretty expensive mod, but looks really neat...
BlueVR and Spooled_2ltr have it on their cars. Maybe they (or someone who actually has it) will chime in....

I got it done also, Didnt do the actual work so I dont know how hard it was. I know it looks good, also that it wasn't easy for him to do it. I got the complete hood of a wrecked car, which was not easy to find, and had it cut out and molded on.

Hood scoop...
well first (pretty much the hard part) u need to find a wrecked subaru legacy hood.. or u can just buy new hood.. if u cant find a wrecked one..
rest is pretty much cut your stock hood and weld the scoop that u cut off from legacy.. and sand fill sand fill sand fill...
oh and u need to cut the this part of the hood..

u dont really have to cut it off.. but it's easier that way..
total time will take about 10hours.. that's what body shop took them..
and when it's done it should look like this..

oh and dont worry about rain water cuz it doesnt hit any part of my engine.. all the rain water hits my header...

Re: Soobie Hood Scoop?? (HughJass)

cheap way.... RA design makes a scooby scoop... thats what is on my car... figure 125$ for the scoop.. then cut a hole....
Re: Soobie Hood Scoop?? (SoCo4Fun)

Last night I stopped at the grocery store on my way home from work and pulled in purposely next to a brand spankin new WRX wagon. I got out, took a look at the two white cars next to each other and had a crazy hallucination of what it would look like to swap front ends, scooped hood, bulging fenders, and big round bubble headlights on my GTI.
add it to the ever growing list of future mods.....

oh i heard about the copy of the scoop.. made out of fiber glass..
but someone told me that the heat from the engine is not good for the fiber glass. something about losin it's shape...
if it was made out of carbon fiber than it's ok..
Re: Soobie Hood Scoop?? (BlueVR)

hmmm, fiberglass hoods have been used for years, so I dunno about the heat being a problem..
maybe if its a cheap thin molded glass scoop, or maybe if theirs an intercooler or something really hot mounted an inch underneath it...

hehe... what is the most hot part of the engine??
maybe header is one of them??? hehe

the scoop is on top of the header...

Re: Soobie Hood Scoop?? (BlueVR)

true...
but the header wouldn't be an inch below the scoop
look where it's mounted, waaaay back close to the windsheild, directly above the strut tie bar, nowhere near the exhaust..

Re: Soobie Hood Scoop?? (BlueVR)

I knew my foray into WRX land would pay off some day.
Lots of WRX owners are upgrading the stock scoop (which just unbolts BTW) to a taller STI version. I am sure if you went on http://www.i-club.com and checked the classifieds you find someone that would be willing to sell off the stock scoop
