Source for VAG drain plug tool?

579 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  SAEDave
Has anyone found a place to buy the VAG tool for the B5 transmission drain plug. I think the VAG number is 3357. It's a large "tamper resistant" torx socket with a hole in the middle to go over the pin in the middle of the torx head of the drain plug. If you know where to get this and what it costs, please let me know. Thanks. I have two '99 B5s waiting for Redline MT-90.

If that is indeed the correct tool number (don't have Bentley handy right now) you can try these guys: http://www.zelenda.com They do not have the tool listed with that part number, but probably are your best bet for sourcing the tool.

Thanks, shaggymatt. I'll see if they have it and will post what I learn. --Dan

I bought a set of tamper resistant torx (has hole for center pin) at Pep Boys about a year ago; don't know if the size you need is included. The set was about $20.

Thanks, Dave. I have seen those Torx sets and they don't have the big tool that's needed for the VAG drain plugs. Snap-On and Matco didn't a while back and I don't see anything like this in their on-line catalogs. Looks like VAG is doing a good job of keeping us DIYers at bay...

If there is room to grind down the center pin, any Torx the right size will work. I believe Pep Boys also had some other sizes, but don't remember whether they were very large.
