Well, it looks like the legislation is in its early stages in the MD general assembly. But I'm sure it will pass; its an easy source of revenue. I live in the district, and I know there are already some red-light cameras around.

Oh man
, red light cameras were one thing, but now I'm REALLY mad
You had to know it was coming with all the red light cameras around, but I thought it would take a few years. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif At least it's only in Maryland, if it makes it into the Va assembly I'm fighting it, tooth and nail.

I wish they would do that here. Stationary always on radar is much easier to detect than laser or instant on radar.

Making money is all that this crap is about. Pure and simple.
I've always been happy that we didn't have to deal with that bull*&$% here, but I guess that may be changing... I may have to go get a V1 after all...
Sigh...

At least you can use a V1, here in Va if we get speed cameras, we're up a creek without a paddle.

Sorry, here is a better link http://www.sunspot.net/news/yahoo/bal-md.speed06feb06.story?coll=bal-newsaol-headlines
I know it will come eventually. Look at Fairfax County current red light camera demo (on the web), you will see that the camera already records your speed. I have no problem obeying the law, IF the law is enforced all across the board (lane change, use of signals and lights, passing lane, and so on). Until then, it's just another money making scheme. And btw, don't start that speed kills argument. Everything kills if one has no brain!
I am seriously considering getting a photo blocker.

This is a violation of our constitutional rights.
We no longer have the right to defend ourselves in court over an issue like this.
Hopefully more people will see this, and vote accordingly!

Actually, if you should choose to break laws in which you seem to support (speed limits, I haven't seen too many fights or protests lately to get rid of these or change them drastically), then the govt. can go ahead and take your picture and mail the fine to you...what they can't do is issue points based on the ticket. Unless they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are the one driving, they cannot issue points on your license. All you have to do is have your sunglasses on (for example) and they couldn't proove that it was you.
I think the cameras are a horrible idea and just another way that they police departments are getting a bit to lazy. If they can't be out there handing out tickets in person, why should they be able to do it via a computer? If there are staffing issues here then do something to recruit more cops to the force.
In the VA-DC-MD area, the speed limits are such a joke already that someone's coffers are going to be full before you know it, or these cameras will go out of service becuase they can't handle that many pictures.
I honestly think that these cameras might be put in initially but with the ruckus they cause, the will be out within 6-months.

We thought the same thing - no one will stand for it (we have 65mph speed limits etc). They are still here. The cameras are called multi-novas here, and they aren't just in one place. Usually mounted inside a van with a cop clicking pictures. And they are not always-on - they are instant on.

What's worse, is that now whenever there is a vehicle on the side of the road, everyone slams their brakes on, making conditions even more dangerous.
At least they don't count as points ... yet.
