speeding officers????????????

i just had an idea reading the post about how traffic tickets save lives (temporarily at least) and the whole issue with valuable law enforcement time spent on minor infractions such as traffic violations and speeding.
considering that we have separate jurisdictions (maybe?) and officers for parking tickets and violations, why not have a separate agency empowered to give out speeding tickets and such? it would free up a cop's time to go out and get the big fish, like all of us complain about every day. and considering that cop's are trained to do much more than just give out speeding tickets. personally i think that putting this idea in motion will definitely reduce speeding and bring in more income to the state (at least to fund the speeding enforcement agency) and allow cops to go out and do their real thing
any opinions

Speeding tickets are a great revenue generator for police forces. I don't see them handing over that cash cow so easily.

Living around here, you'd never guess that. Wait, they are also trained to give out tickets for HOV violations

Because, if the new agency really did their job, they'd be spending too much time giving tickets to the old agency's officers. (At least, around here..)

IMO, we have that already, and they are called State Troopers. At least real police officers are cool most of the time, and not hell bent on writing as many tickets as possible.

LOL Jason...
On the flip side... The cops here in SK don't seem to pull you over for anything (not that I'd be stupid enought to try driving here myself), and the people's driving habits follow suit. And the cops are EVERYWHERE.
Red Light? Bah... that's not for you....
Speed Limit? Is that something like Redline?
Road too congested? Save time by doing 40 on the sidewalk on your motor cycle.
Load limit for a motorcycle is One Full Sized Refridgerator, standing up, bungeed to the rack.
Only use turn signals prior to extremely reckless maneuver. (Meaning, the signals are always on).
So, before you wish for a place where there are no police... consider the consiquences. (Korea has one of the highest accident rates of any industrialized country) And the cars here show what happens when drivers are allowed to "Do whatever you Please"
The only thing these people are good at, is stopping for pedestrians that have the green walk signal. But if you don't step off the curb... you're never getting across the street.

In California we have the CHP who rule the freeways and highways. If you see a cop car that is not CHP on the freeway, you can usually speed right past him as he is probably going to or from a court appearance or something like that. Though I wouldn't try it with any local police motorcycle cop as they are pretty much all traffic officers and may be cruising the freeway looking for violations.
In the City of Los Angeles, it is very difficult to get a moving violation from the LAPD. They rarely do speed enforcement EXCEPT they will set up RADAR traps in nicer suburban areas on busy streets. I've seen RADAR traps on Moorpark in Studio City, Franklin in Los Feliz, Wilshire in the Corridor/Westwood (where you cars often go 80 in the 35 zone, at least I do), Balboa Ave in the Valley, Vista Del Mar in PDR/Westchester and on Sunset in the Palisades. But for the most part the LAPD has much better things to do than bust speeders and as a result it is really tough to get a speeding ticket. And there are multitudes of really bad drivers (especially on the east side of the city).
However, as many people who live here don't even know, we have all these independent cities that have their own police or use the Sheriffs and they can be ticket hell. Malibu is the absolute worst place to speed (combo of CHP and local cops - or are they Sheriffs in Malibu?), Beverly Hills cops have nothing better to do, as do the cops in Glendale, Burbank, Culver City, and Pasadena. I always try to drive slower in these areas. In 14 years of driving and living here, I've never, ever got a ticket in the City of LA (been warned and let go twice though), but I have been ticketed in Glendale (repeatedly), BH, and Malibu.

The CHP is everywhere, you just have to look at for them.

I did to. I see cops speeding excessively every night on my way home from work. I've even seen two race from a light before in a 25mph zone. They must have gone up to 80 or so.
Back on topic. Like was mentioned before, in VA I believe all the cops around here in NOVA can do is give speeding and parking tickets. To get the speeders they have to setup speed traps consisting of no less than 8 cops and an SS Camaro. They have their cars all lined up along the street and take turns with the radar gun. If someone runs they pull out the Camaro and chase the sucker down. They also love setting up speed traps at 6:00AM on Sunday mornings cause you know all those dangerous people are heading off to church.

Heck yea! All they want is to meet their quota.
