why did you replace the speed sensor? Did you have a fault? Also, does your instrument cluster have the VDO logo in the center?

well you just paid for a speed sensor when you didnt need one. Guarantee if you scan your car right now you'll have the same fault. That fault stores automatically when the car is off because the sensor isnt sensing Rpm. Once you start the car the sensor starts working. That fault will always be stored in early mk3 cars. The VDO clusters had alot of problems, get a new one or used one from a junkyard. Guarantee this is your problem. Go check your fault memory, im sure your speed sensor fault is back, because it never actually goes away. I didnt say he was a tard either

In theory you are right, as we all know vw's are retarded sometimes and thats the way the crazy germans engineered it. Dont ask me why, it only happens on the mk3's
