[Mk418TDUB]

OK...i walked out to my car this afternoon after it had been sitting there all day and started it up and WHOAH!!!! The idle bounced from 800RPM-1600RPM

...About 5 seconds of it doing this, the CEL started to FLASH/BLINK...When i saw this, i immediately shut the car off and turned it back on and it is fine...the CEL did not stay on when i started it back up nor did it still blink....
Does anyone know what the cause of this could be?? I occasionally have a rough idle when i start it up when the car has been sitting for a while and is cold, BUT NEVER THIS BAD...like i said...it jumped from 800-1600RPM.
I scaned the codes when i got home and there were NONE

Anyone know what the cause of this is??

cold start software problem? (apr does have an update out

)

Funny you say that..."coilpacks"...i have been having issues with the coilpacks popping up...Might i have bad coilpacks??
How would i know FOR SURE that they are bad before i deal with the dealership about replacing them??
I doubt it was a cold start problem....i was BIG TIME "studdering"

BIG TIME "studdering" sounds like cold start issue to me...

hmm...could be...but for some reason you said it might be the coilpacks...AND i have been having issues with them popping up like i said...so that would lead me to believe it COULD have some thing to do with the coilpacks...

from what ive read, the blinking cel is an indication of the wonderful coil packs...

well thats what i got...a blinking CEL...

i think there is a procedure in the bently...i belive you can test the OHMs of the coils w/ a multimeter or something to that extent..

just an update....i came today...after the car sat in the lot all day(below 30 degrees outside) and the exact same thing happened...starting to irritate me

i have the same problem and i brought my car to the dealer to have a look. my car is 2001 with AWW motor, already did the ignition coils recall in Nov, 03. The tech pulled out my coil and spark plugs and called me over and show me how the plugs in my car (Champion cooper plus) are so easy to pull out from the ignition coil. Then he inserted the oem Bosch plug into the ignition coil and it was hard to pull out. So it explained the Champion plugs is a little smaller in size compare to Bosch so it will make the coil pop up. my 2nd and 3rd coils kept on poping up. but i didnt buy any Bosch plugs at the dealer cuz they overprice them and more importantly i have Autolite 3922 plugs that i bought 2 weeks ago so i will throw them in and see if i have any pop up. My friend did help me make some custom brackets that bolt onto the engine block and make sure the coils wont pop up as i am still using the champion plugs. IM me your email if u want to see what the custom brackets look like
but it's not the coil that are defected, it might be the plugs if u are not using the stock oem Bosch plugs.

I've had coilpacks go on me twice last winter... the first time, they only replaced one, that took 2 weeks, cuz they were backordered, the second time was another 2 weeks, but they replaced the other three... point is, both times that happened, the CEL was blinking and it was idling rough... but you did say earlier that you shut the car off and the CEL was off when you restarted it
