so I finally got my starter in this morning
btw it's a 1.8 16v, digi 2 .... ok
not too bad a job...so I finally get to
TURN THE KEY, anticipating some crankin
wirrrr, wirrrr, Vrooooommmm

but then the RMP's promptly shoot up to like 3k
and from there it slowly rises approaching 4k
and still slowly climbing....
so I shut her down. What could be going on?
I switched back to the OLD intake setup
tried it again... same thing.
I looked at the TB and the butterflies
look ok, pretty clean, seem to move
as they should, the ISV vibrates when I
have the key in the ON position so I think that works
the car had overheated... maybe I should replace
the Coolant temp sensor, but that is not the
HIGH REV problem.... what's going on here?
I think I'll take the T-body off one day soon
and clean it up good... and then try it again.
any ideas guys?

Mark,
I am 100% sure its a vaccum leak somewhere. if the butterflies are closed, it could be the gasket between the TB and the manifold......Or some little hose which unpluged itseld accidentally. Good thing you have the cabby working again. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Ok I'll excuse you from not knowing this since you obviously missed my earlier lectures on how to find a vacuum leak.

Get a can of carb cleaner (preferably Gumout) and squirt it at every suspected vacuum hose junction, all manifold gaskets etc. Anywhere air could leak in. If the idle changes (up or down) you've found the leak. !!
There'll be a test later.

I will do the carb cleaner trick to finding the leak
after going over it carefully.... then we'll see.
I will report back, I promise

you guys will see..... my cabby will be back very soon.
woooooo I can't wait.
it's just that tomorrow after work I drive to jersey
then back to Long Island and start my saturday night
drinking.... then sunday.... I might have the morning to work
opn the car, depending on how saturday goes. then later saturday
we might go sailing and drinking so that could conflict with the
car working time but I'll have am car hours... bagle and car every morning of the week, I'll get this car runnin like a champ in 3 bagles or LESS!
