From the online discussion with Pat Goss on washingtonpost.com today:
New York, N.Y.: I have a used 1997 Geo Metro. Recently, while driving 50mph or more, the steering wheel has been shaking and vibrating. We brought it to a garage and they told us that the steering wheel bearing had to be changed, as well has the front tires (which looked fine to us). Charging us $260 for the steering wheel - does this sound right? I know nothing about cars.
Pat Goss: A word of advice. Do not wear the tshirt with the large picture of a lollipop (sucker) when visiting an auto repair business. Steering bearing, give me a break. Go elsewhere and get a couple of other opinions.

Re: Steering Wheel Bearing (vw fiend)

So in other words, a shop replaces a wheel bearing, customer doesnt know wtf s/he is talking about, and the shop looses a customer.
