So i don't know when this started happening, but now whenever i turn the wheel it makes this soft, yet noticeable, grinding noise....sounds like something running their nails across sand paper only a little more grimy...like throw some mud in there and then put another piece of sandpaper over the muddy one and then rub them togther....sounds more like that. Well anyway i hope this is a good description of the sound. It seems to becoming from inside the ride, so I hope it nothing like power steering....anyone else's steering wheel make grinding noises??? :im so sick of these icons i need a paint program:

Re: Steering wheel makes nasty grinding noises when i turn it! (redrocketrado)

Mine just started doing this. I think its part of the plastic around behind the wheel (the cover around the signals and wiper arms and ingnition) rubbing.

This is so easy to fix that it's almost a joke. Your horn is electrically powered (duh) but the wires don't run from the horn button all the way through the column because they would twist up and break. Thus, at the rear of your whhel, there is a brass ring that contacts a tab on the column to maintain an electrical connection. This comes from the factory with a nice coating of dielectric grease but 10+ years of dust, dirt and grime do their thing and render the surface dry and possibly with some light oxidation. Just remove the wheel, take some fine steel wool to both surfaces to ensure smoothness and coat with some dielectric grease (petroleum jelly a.k.a. Vaseline will also do it in a pinch). Buttom things back up and you're all set, takes about 3 minutes if you know what you're doing, 15 if you're a one-armed idiot
. I also suggest installation of a sexy Momo steering wheel at this time.
