Did you guys know they still make A2s in China? Isnt that crazy? Except they make them with a weak 1.8L, low smog/high fuel economy engine. My teacher unfortuneately didnt know the type of injection system...

Re: Still making A2 Jettas in China (VWVancouver)

Sorry, I just heard about it in class. My professor is making propane injection systems that he is planning on selling to a company that will do retrofit kits so the cars can pass new smog laws.
(BBSish rims...cool) http://public.fotki.com/mikesho/cars-1/chinese_jetta/jettaii_passat.html
(and this is cool...I hope that guy is importing these dashes) http://public.fotki.com/mikesho/cars-1/chinese_jetta/jetta-ns-2.html
(Except that better be a DIN head unit, or its never going to sell...) http://public.fotki.com/mikesho/cars-1/chinese_jetta/jetta-ns-14.html
And I would say importing the seats would be cool, but Im about 10 inches taller than the average Chinese person, and Im sure the seats reflect that.
PS: And of course, all this stuff is made of inferior parts and quality than German, American, or even Mexican construction.

Re: Still making A2 Jettas in China (panic)

Are you sure its still 100% VW? I know China has a practice of buying old *factories* when they are retired by their current owner. Like if you knew where the bathroom was in Wolfsburg (or where ever) you would know where it was in Bejing.

100% vw. The company is co-owned like every other foreign car manufacturer in china. be it honda, buick, jeep, isuzu, toyota... Joint venture is the word I should use. Their programs are unique though, like the b4'd jetta 2's and the passat2000. Currently the passat b5, audi A6's are also being manufactured in china. Older cars like the audi 100's and VW santana(b2 passat) were made as well. Though I don't know if they have stopped production.

Re: Still making A2 Jettas in China (Craig_Heitzman)

i was in china in january. when i was in shanghai i asked our guide where to get auto parts. they are all grouped into a couple of blocks. i went to many stores, trying to mime what lights i wanted. i was able to draw pictures and mime my way into locating jetta headlights. they appeared to be euro spec, they reflected much more light than the NA ones. i didnt get any, because i had a weight limit for my luggage and the price was only a little better than motorworks' price. but i did get some chinese badges. all their taxies are VWs.

The Bora will replace the Jetta, a Changchun-produced Volkswagen model which has been popular in recent years in China.

sigh...no more jetta 2's...

the "red flag" brand cars, china's "luxury"
car are now using old Audi 100's and rebadged them. They're also rebadging older nissans for the same purpose...
