I just recently purchased the Panasonic CX-DP610EUC 6 disc changer, along with the PIE CD interface cable #VW/PC-PAN6 from LogJam.
The physical installation, was a breeze.

1) Plugged in the interface cable to the changer, then to the factory 12-pin data cable.
2) Turned on radio. Head Unit saw the changer. Everythings great.
3) I then go to another CD, and for some reason, the TRACK buttons don't work. I can hold the buttons down and I can hear the track FFWD, but when I hit it once to advance to the next song or previous song, NOTHING?!?!
4) I go back to the 1st CD and everything works

5) I try the other CDs and on the other 5 CDs, I cannot skip to different tracks.
I did find a way to workaround this problem. Each time I change CDs, I HAVE TO exit out of the CD Changer mode (to Radio or Tape) and then go back to the CD. This is the only way I can get full TRACK skip functionality.
It doesn't seem to be hardware related, or else it wouldn't work at all for ANY discs. It seems as though each time I switch CDs, the deck has to come out of that mode to reset itself so that I can use the track buttons. Weird...

I've sent an email off to the CD Interface manufacturer (Precision Interface Electronics, Inc.). We'll see what comes of that. I've also sent an email to LogJam, although I don't think they will be able to help since they are just resellers.
Note: I looked on top of my Monsoon deck and noticed a couple of stickers. One says 'Software 24', another set says EE-PROM K39. I wonder if the software version on some of decks could have something to do with the strange behavior.
Anyone ever experience this? If so, is there a fix?

Re: Strange behavior with Panasonic 6 Disc Changer + Monsoon (SpecialKDog1)

YES! I'm having the exact same problem! It's kind of annoying! I was just doing a search before starting a post. Good thing I found this.
There's something really weird going on. I've been able to get the track function to work after switching the power off and then back on again. This seems to "reset" something.
I've also noticed that once I get going for about 5 minutes, everything works normally - as if it needs to warm up or something...
Another oddity is that the Mix button is often not recognized very well.
I thought these problems may have been due to the fact that I forgot to change the setting on the panasonic from Horizontal (the default) to Verticle (this is a switch found on both sides of the changer unit, two screws that can be slid into position). I took the changer out today and switched the setting to Verticle but have not noticed any improvement.
I also thought this may have been due to the recent cold weather in Michigan. Also not the cause, as it was warmer today and I still had the problem.
Let me know if you or anybody finds a solution to this!

Re: Strange behavior with Panasonic 6 Disc Changer + Monsoon (agarc)

Mistertam from ClubB5 mentioned he had this same problem and it turned out to be the PIE interface cable. I'm going to contact LogJam on Monday to see about getting it replaced.
You should do the same

After talking with the folks at LogJam - I am now going to send back the Panasonic 6 disc changer so that they can swap it out.
Wish me luck.

I'm curious to know how this works out for you. I'm thinking about going with the same setup (for our 01.5 GLX) and would like to know if others (other than those in this post) have had the same problems you did. The Panasonic unit from logjam.com seems to have the best price from where I've checked around at.
Are there any warranty issues with this install?
How proactive was logjam at helping resolvle the problem?

Re: Strange behavior with Panasonic 6 Disc Changer + Monsoon (gtidog)

gtidog - the logjam folks have been very understanding and have been willing to work with me. I will be sending the changer back to them along with our current PIE cable just so they can check both.
My biggest fear is that I will end up with a new changer to go with my existing replacement PIE cable and will STILL have the same issues. It may just be bad luck on my part, otherwise A BUNCH of folks would be screaming about this issue.
Wish me luck.

Re: Strange behavior with Panasonic 6 Disc Changer + Monsoon (SpecialKDog1)

SpecialKDog1,
I am sorry to hear you are having this problem. I personally have never experienced it. When I push the track forward button, the CD player goes to the next song, when I push and hold it down, it fast-forwards through the existing song. Going to previous tracks or fast-reversing operates similarly. I have the simpler adapter cable (VW98PAN6).
Let us know the outcome, please.
regards,
Brian
