Some gap is normal (about 1 fingers worth), but that's a lot of gap.
Usually the gap is caused by worn upper strut mount bushings.
Usually the gap is caused by worn upper strut mount bushings.
I reused the old bushing and bearing, I have a new bushing that I will be installing at some point when I have time, I'm just hoping that's the problem and I don't have to buy half cups or anything.Did you include the bearing the upper strut mount when installing the coilover? (or just an old upper mount as XDleader555 mentioned)
I installed everything in the right order, but I had a really hard time getting the top nut down due to my lack of tools, I got new crows foot wrenches for it now and new bushings, so maybe with those two combined it'll fix my issue.yeah something is off there, either you have the bushing installed the wrong way up or your bushings are very worn. Did the cup stick up this much before you changed out the coilovers? If not then you probably installed something incorrectly. I have installed at least 2 cars with Maxpeedingrods and I have not seen this issue, the height of the cup is determined by the distance to the nut that secures the bearing, it doesn't look like your cup is going down far enough.
In the image below 14 is the bearing, 21 is the bearing nut, if you tighten the cup nut 17 to the correct torque the cup is pulled down into the bushing 18 and eventually contacts the bearing nut 21 unless you reach the torque before that.
