I have a 2010 VW CC and i want to add a subwoofer. I Will be keeping the stock speakers, maybe upgrade them later on. I know not the best choice. But CCs lack in bass alot!
my budget for a sub is $1000-$1300.
I dont want 2 subs all i want is one and nothing bigger than a 15! I really dont want to use up half of my trunk.

I want a deep bass, but also has to be clear. Mostly i listen to EDM , pop and sometimes rap
So far my options that i have picked are:

• Focal K2 Power 33 KX
• JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5
• MTX T9500

In my previous car (Audi TT) I had 2 15s Rockford fosgate P1s


All suggestions are welcomed.

Get yourself a Sundown Audio SA-8 V2 and stay away from any of those you listed. I know you are going to say 8inch? Thats nothing but trust me, these little subs pound harder and cleaner than anything else. Also, for the love of god please, please sound deaden your entire trunk, there is nothing worse than listening to a car rattle like all hell.

yeah... new door/deck speakers are never going to have the bass of a sub.
even a well powered quality 8 will have much more bass then the components will provide.

Even back then I would rather run 2-3 8" subs than 1-2 12".
MUCH better response depending on your music choice.
Granted I have a 12" in the back of my golf but I got the whole set up for $150 bucks off a friend.

Maybe look at free air subs and mount one on the rear parcel shelf.

If you have properly installed quality speakers Eq'd through a decent head there is no need for a sub other than to "thug bump".

Especially since he has a CC. I'm assuming it has speakers in the doors for low end and tweeters as well.

the OP has/had 2 15"s in his last car. he OBVIOUSLY wants bass. something that a 4 pack setup of mids/tweets will never accomplish.

and yes you can have an opinion. but the OP was asking about subs. not the rest of his systems deficits.

also. i can tell you are not actually a true SQ guy. because IF you were. then you would know that bass is a requirement in overall SQ.

not 2 15"s worth. but, yes absolutely a good sub of some kind is needed.

I should tell you about the time I had 8 x 12" subs in my Prelude. The year was...1999!

The sa8-v2 is a very well built and very decent sounding sub. I would definitely look into these; it is a cheaper method to get loud with an properly designed enclosure suited to your cabin.

I got a nice diamond audio dual voice coil 10 and a 400 watt diamond amp that I never installed in my GTI. Now that I bought a Jetta with the fender audio, I don't really need it. PM me if you want to talk about it. Should be more than enough for the little punch your looking for. I'll meet you in Springfield. That's halfway between stl and chicago right?

Here's my current setup in my M6. 10" Alumapro in a 6th order Bandpass. But it's a 2-door and the enclosure has an extended port mouth to the cabin via ski-hole, done by StrongArmingWorks/designs. It was also built to have a lower cg and overall curb weight than it's previous enclosure bought from a store.

Pure physics would tell us that door speaker (usually 6.5" or less, SOMETIMES 8") are simply not going to reproduce sound <50Hz or so. Just doesn't work. Plenty of music goes that low. So you either get distortion (no filter) or simply a dropoff (filter) where that sound was supposed to be.


That said, IMO one doesn't need $1k-1300 worth of subs in a normal street car, but a sub does make a significant difference even in "non-thug" mode. Almost every high end factory system will include a moderate sub. Hell, the basic system in my TSX has a (relatively crappy) 8" thumper in the rear deck.

What happened to the "you get what you pay for"? I dont get this, i was to ask about some coilovers from raceland or rokkor most of you would say you get what you pay now. But wait now its too much? Why not buy something nice if i can afford it?
Yes, i already have a different head unit. And yes there is a big chance ill be swapping the speakers by the next summer. So why ruin a sound system with some ****ty 200-300$ sub?

good points, my car has it's own tiny subs mounted to the top of the trunk as well. The big ass boxes are just unnecessary in my view i guess.

I'm really not entire certain what you mean. If you're saying I listen to classical stuff, then you're not entirely wrong. I got to study to something; although I stick with Piano and not woodwinds.

Right, thats why I said it was my opinion. Wasn't trying to imply anything. Also he said he was trying to avoid something huge taking up too much space in the trunk which is why I levied my opinion of just changing out the speakers.
I won't argue that a good small sub won't help and I will agree that 2 15"s, or anything for that matter, is not necessary.

Not a stance guy, but I can't hate that. It levels out the extreme rake that the body gives to the car which makes the ass seem to be up in the air. Gives it a much more natural flow.
