My current setup is as follows:
Alpine 7878
Boston Pro 6.5 in front powered by JL 300/2 Amp.
The rear speakers are stock and powered off the HU.
I'm going to buy a JL 500/1 for sub.
I don't need alot of bass and don't want to take up alot of space w/ a big sub box.
Do you reconmend a single 10 or 12 and what type?
Thanks

Re: Suggestion on sub for 02 GTI (texture)

I like the kicker solo's (the square ones). It uses a pretty small enclosure, sealed and it hits pretty good. It has decent SQ...and like I said it hits nicely.
You'll lose only a little bit of space, unless you make a custom enclosure into the side.
JL's are also nice, go with the stealthbox if you are really set on not losing any usable trunk space.

Re: Suggestion on sub for 02 GTI (Romnkar)

I am not overly concerned w/losing space for an enclousure that will take up about 1 cu. ft.
The stealthbox is kind of expensive. I don't mind spending $500 on a sub but I would want to be able to use it if I ever sell my car. Thats why I want a small sealed box.
I've heard good things about the Kicker L7.
I previously had 2 10 alum eclipse subs in my Civic and may go w/a 12in elcipse.
More suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Suggestion on sub for 02 GTI (ajn507)

I have a box with (4) JL 8W3' pff a single JL 500/1 and its plenty of tight bass.
I have pics of the box.
The spare is still easy to get out.
And BTW, I have an extra 500/1 for sale.

If you don't mind spending the money, you will be hard pressed to find a better fitment and solid sound than what the JL Stealth Box offers. I made space savings a priority and I am thankful of that everytime I go to the grocery store. I just use my sub to mix up all the liquids I bought at the store.

Nothin like a wrench head to open up, put together, and lay out and exhaust system in the house. LOL

More pics of the construction here. http://www.gti18t.com/images/audio/

We still need to finish the amp box and the raised sub floor.
