Hey guys,
Just got back from the GTG down at VA Beach, great bunch and beautiful cars (especially Chris's,
).
I threw this idea at a couple of the guys and they seemed to be cool with it, so here it goes: Can we try and find a place more central between Richmond and VA Beach to meet? I'd love to hang out with you all every sunday, but I think the 1.5 hour drive is gonna get old (and expensive) really quick, so how about a middle-ground like in Williamsburg, or at least on my side of the tunnel...?
Everyone please reply to this, I'm pretty us rare Richmond crew would be more than willing to hike down 64 about 40-50 miles, that's a real easy drive...
One last thing, I have to say that the HOV lanes coming west on 64 are AWESOME, something about being between two really close walls and flying at about 80/85 that really makes you happy

Re: Sunday GTG's (Skorp)

I don't know about every weekend ( my wife would kick my arse ) , but a once a month trip to Willy's Berg would be tres nice . It's still up for discussion , but I think once a month GTG to somewhere central would be killer . Someone central should find a nice ( WARM ) spot to hang . Any volunteers . What does everyone else think ?? Come on , you guy's are always lookin to road-trip !
Re: Sunday GTG's (DeezUU)

Third....Brian, I was the one w/ the red gti mk4, incase you were wonderin'

Re: Sunday GTG's (CALL6)

Hey, if we do the once a month deal we can turn it into a BBQ or something along those lines, a day-long party, I figure with plenty of food in our stomachs we'll keep warm...
I wish I had a house with a yard instead of a third floor apartment, I'd be more than happy to host something like that, oh well...
Anyone in williamsburg with a house w/ a yard or that is buddy-buddy with the owner of a pool hall or something along those lines?
(I think the coolest thing would be if we somehow magically found someone with a private lot that we could try some drags in, hehe, very doubtful though)

(sidenote: if we all want to try and band together and get some kind of organization or central place for info, I'd be more than willing to lend my graphic design and web development talents to make a page to keep track of who drives what and is where and to be a place to have pics of gatherings and such...just an idea, don't worry, I do it for a living so it won't look like sh1t)

Re: Sunday GTG's (Skorp)

hey brian,
thanks for coming down, i just wish we had something planned for ya.....next time for sure.
def. can do the once a month thing....combo gtg/bbq at someones house or gtg at at a local pub across the water is cool with me.....
i REALLY like the idea of having a vacant lot to get crazy in but yea, wishful thinking.
as for the web page, we have been wanting to put one up for over a year now, we just lack the skills.....let us know whats involved and lets get this thing up and running....
later,
Re: Sunday GTG's (crez)

Web page is simple, I just need pics and "bios" of yourselves and your cars. Also should work out a name for the group or at least a good way to name the area (Southern VA?). I just snapped some new pics of my car this evening actually (and discovered yet another problem with the exhaust, DAMNIT!), so after they're developed I'll be set.

One thing that we can do is all get together on a NICE day at a reasonable (*cough*2pm*cough*) time and I can bring my SLR camera down and take some good pictures of everyone's ride (digital pictures are always grainy, nothing beats film) and get those developed and scanned in myself.

I've got a good bank of "real" pics of most everybody's cars , but lost my photopoint account ( just let it end ) I now have a webshots account and will transferring all pics to that page . I'll let you know when I get em up . I'll update the pics we dont have next time we GTG with decent light . Using a Cannon Rebel xs . A tard can take pics with this thing .

Re: Sunday GTG's (DeezUU)

I just got all my pics scanned in last night and up, have a peep

http://www.trakkus.com/photos/jetta.html
It's so bloody hard to take good pictures of a black car (not to mention getting it clean enough for good pics, which i didnt have time for yesterday after work before it got too dark), but these seemed to come out ok.
Does anyone else want to reply on the website idea? I'd like to see what everyone thinks and also see what everyone would like to see on the site...

Re: Sunday GTG's (crez)

Ok, you all have twisted my arm enough!! I will lend my place for a BBQ/GTG. I have an apartment, but we have parking, cool neighbors, and as always
on tap, and ice cold!!
As for a crew, I'm down....just cleaned up my local crew, or cleaned out I should say!
We need to set a day, like the third sunday or something like that.
Web page muy bueno, I can lend all of my conversion pics for tech page, and add narrative. I can also write a bio about me, seeing as how I love myself!!!

---Chris, RawNRG thing would be muy muy bueno!! I hope to hook up with those guys when I move. Moving....good, you guys will have another "Dub-Hotel", with mucho

Re: Sunday GTG's (SRJetta)

Yay, more input!
Spread the word to all the Central and Southern VA vortexers (and non vortexers, get them on here!) so we can get a large group that's willing to do this site and possibly a club. I don't know how many richmonders would be in on a club, but I'm sure Neal would be, and possibly g-1 (if i remember correctly he had the nice shiny black Wolfsburg saturday before anyone else showed up).
As for names, I really have no idea

<edit: SRJetta, have I met you yet?>

Re: Sunday GTG's (ilovemy92gti)

Monthly GTG's up in Williamsburg would be sweet. If Josh (SRJetta) is willing to let us gather at his place when it's cold, that would be even better!
I'm also all for the website. Who will host it? And what kind of bandwidth can we get? I have a bunch of pics to post, so let me know what is up.
I do want to post a bio, with past and present cars that I've owned. I'll be more than happy to contribute to the tech page, even tho' I'm a newbie at working on cars.

Here's some pics of my past/present cars:
'98 Jetta GLX

'92 GTI 16V

'97 GTI VR6

Re: Sunday GTG's (chuck_simpson)

The site won't cost that much. I can take care of all of that (donations gladly accepted of course) and research hosting options depending on what all we want to do with the site. Right now i have hosting with http://www.liquidweb.com and they have some good options, but I know there are cheaper ones out there. But, if we've got 20 guys on the site, a buck a month from each one would be easy for everyone to make (i hope, hehe) and make the site really cheap to run.
Lets see how many are interested and what we want to do with the site (in terms of pictures, galleries, a private forum, videos, sounds, whatever) and then I'll throw out some options for hosting and design.
Williamsburg monthly GTG's, I'm SO in on that http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Will, what are you crying about, did I miss something...?

Re: Sunday GTG's (Skorp)

I've done some web pages so I could help with the site as well. Gotta have pictures & Bio's. A links page with local (from da beach to maybe Charlottesville) with numbers and addresses of shops. Could also have a forum for information on experiences with local shops, dealers, stereo shops, body shops, ect... I've been looking for someone to redo the seats in my car, but am worried about getting a bum shop. It would be great to be able to take my car to a shop that I know has done good work in the past on a fellow dubbers car. Plus, since I live in an Apartment Complex it's kinda difficult to work on my own car. I would love to be able to ask around to borrow someone's garage from time-to-time to do some mods. And if someone needed help with something (like pulling the front bumber off), I would totally expect them to post for help. I think it's easier to do when you know the person is just up the street rather than half way across the nation.
Williamsburg GTG - I'm there. We should keep the post as Richmond/ VA Beach/ Williamsburg though cause otherwise the string of people may get lost in the transfer.
BTW - anyone have a garage I can borrow

Re: Sunday GTG's

This could work if you had three chapters maybe. Like Southside, Peninsula and Richmond.
just giving ideas.
The center point would be the Yorktown/Williamsburg area.
I have a garage, with tools and HVAC. The biggest problem is that I am very busy and rarely have time to work on my own cars. Usually on th weekends only.
