supercharger installed - sweet!

Well, I bought and installed the Neuspeed Supercharger a week ago, and I must say, I am very pleased. The car just pulls and pulls and pulls. There's basically no incentive to shift! And the power is just so smooth. "Night and day" has been used to describe the improvement, and I'd say that's quite fitting. I feel like I'm driving a new car. The installation is straightforward, but took us a pretty full day, made worse by the fact that it gets dark so early. Except for the spark plug wires that I mangled and had to replace, everything went very well. The kit is amazingly complete, and the instructions were quite good. I'd like to thank Lance at bestvwparts.com and Jeff at Neuspeed for their great service and help.

I think that a sc should be considered by everyone who is dissatisfied with their 2.slow. This is alot cheaper than changing the whole car for a 1.8T or VR6. Happy that you like it

Great. Now if someone could make one for a VR6......
Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (jcha)

i am seriously thinking about getting the supercharger for my jetta (especially if the price drops by springtime)...... Do I need a professional to install this ( I basicall have no experience under the hood), or would my amateur friend be able to do a job like this?????? Also, did you have to change anything else to the car other than what was included with the kit?
Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (Jetta_J)

Enjoy it. I will be getting one for X-mas, thats what I need plug and play power
with no down time. I'm waiting on my x-mas bonus.$$$.
jcha, How much did you pay for it ?
Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (Caribe)

yeah how much did you pay? I hope it wasnt the original price of $2999.....
Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (Caribe)

sounds nice ,,but the money to power ratio is not adding up...

Paid $2600. And yes, arguably the power-to-dollar is poor, but the other benefits make up for it big time. Indeed, it is plug-and-play power with no (well, a little) down-time.
As for the installation, I have reasonable mechanical skills (lots of machining in grad school, working on mtn bikes, etc), but I've never really done anything automotive. Like I said, the install went very well except for the spark plug wires that I damaged. Of course, I didn't know they were screwed up until after the install was complete and the car hesitated like crazy because it was misfiring. Once the problem was diagnosed and I replaced the wires, then everything was extremely smooth. As for needing additional items, wire pullers wouldn't be bad
, plus anti-seize for the plugs, plus extra loc-tite (the kit comes with a small amount) and of course, all the necessary tools. Some people recommend putting the car on jack stands to install the passenger side support brace, but I didn't need to. And patience. It's not hard at all, but it does take a while.

So what bargain is out there that will net this kind of wheel HP on this engine, reliably, for less?

Congrats. I didn't realize you had a GL. Since your car is lighter, you probably really notice the added power. Glad everything worked out. You need to post some pictures with the new wires and charger. People really underestimate how fragile the wires are and that it doesn't take much to damage them. The puller is essential!
I hope you took some of the money you saved and got a radar detector!

Apparently, Z-Engineering does or will have one soon.

Power to cost is not linear. Adding 10 hp at the crank will cost a couple hundred dollars. Adding 42% (40 hp to the wheels) IS going to cost a couple thousand!
I think the money to power ratio for the charger adds up just fine, all things considered!

I keep hearing that there might be a price drop.. is that true? What is the horsepower it puts out too?

I have pictures, but they are still inside my old-school camera. I'll put them up once I get the film developed.

Hmmm, funny that you say that, since I posted a while back about getting my first speeding ticket in years. And yes, that was pre-SC!
Damn supercharger! Must ... go ... drive ... car!

Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (jcha)

Welcome to the club!
I installed mine tuesday and got my ecu back wednesday and have been burning fuel and tires since! Yes, the difference is night and day, well worth the 2350 (group buy in september) that I paid for it! Watch out for the preachers in the forced induction and 2.0 forums - "only a turbo is worth their time"
has anyone else hooked a boost gauge to theirs? I want to compare the behavior of my gauge...

so is a price drop confirmed for anytime soon? I would definitely like to get one by next year, and if the price doesnt drop, I guess we need to start a GB..... how much do you think it would cost to get it installed by a professional....AWE tuning is near me, and I would like them to do it if they could....

Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (jcha)

Hey jcha,
What other mods did you've on your car except the s/c? have you changed your exhaust, intake or any other engine performance mods? coz I wanna know what the s/c will give u with Stock everything setup. The dyno ns put up had like everything upgraded, cam,cam gear, exhaust, p-flow etc...
Congrads on the S/C, glad there's another satisfying S/C upgrade!
Re: supercharger installed - sweet! (jcha)

I am not sure how much to install it but i would guess based on how long i worked on it around 500 bones or so
My boost gauge is very jumpy. It doesn't show any boost unless i get on the gas, which i assume is normal with a charger. When it does come on it raises with the revs and drops off really fast when you shift. I have it hooked to the line between the manifold and fuel pressure regulator. any thoughts?
