well let me say this if you need some one to tell you what you should get then you need to do some serious shoping around and not ask people here as you will find it hard to get a straight answer that every one agrees on..me i went for the turbo as i am verry power hungry(i have only had my turbo in for a month and i am dooing a compleete botom end rebuild with a stroker crank and dished pistons in the hopes of hitting 290 whp)
Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (JettaRacer97)

Supercharger... Just don't get the Nospeed kit. You should already know my opinion if you've been looking around on here. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (JettaRacer97)

It all depends on what you want.. You want a little HP with an easy install but big price tag, than get a S?C, you want Big HP, a longer install but cheaper than a S/C than you have to go turbo.. also with a turbo you can always build on what you have to make more and more HP, with a S/C your very limited..I am going turbo, but make up your ouw mind.
Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (JettaRacer97)

An Eaton M-62 (ideal blower imo) is capable of pushing 24psi. Show me a turbo that does that...

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (HyKlas)

Hey Jettaracer97, I have another Jetta 2.slow (2K) and after doing a lot of research I'm going with the eaton M-62. In my opinion you can boost this s/c more than what your 2.0L engine would handle and we all know that s/c's are more reliable than Turbos and easier to install... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif you would have to make your own kit though
but for the $$$ is worth it

are you serious??
just about ANY aftermarket or even stock turbo in the T3 family can make 24psi on a 2.0L.

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (speed51133)

The real ? is how many hp does it take to push that much boost?Superchargers are only eficient at lower boost.Turbo can be sized to be used at either end of the spectrum, and are much more eficient at high boost.
What does this mean for the VW motor? For under 200 whp a supercharger will work. After that it sucks more money out of your wallet than it does hp off the crank.
Superchargers do have some nice streetability,and 200whp in a MK1 hauls a$$.
Chew on that

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (psi)

with superchargers for every 100 horses you make you loose about 30.With a turbo, every 100 hp you make you loose 10.Which is more efficient.

Here's mine,it'll do 35psi while still 75% efficient.

My standard T3 will push that much and do it much more efficently to boot
! However once your pushing that much with turbo or supercharger you're going to need some internal engine work. So your arguments for easy installation go right down the drain there.
Also whoever says a SC is more reliable then a turbo is nuts. It's not the turbo it is the power hungry driver who cranks his boost up to high without adding fuel and doing engine work. Put a smaller pulley on a SC without adding fuel to it and see what happens. This isn't a direct attack on anyone just wanted to speak my mind on some BS that floats around this board, actually it goes back to all the SC vs Turbo debates from the 2.0 forum. I'm not saying SCs are bad in anyway, i rode in a Jetta VR6 with a Vortech blower producing 350HP off 10psi(TEC II and other goodies) and i almost wet my pants. He got to 160MPH faster then my car can get to 60(exaggeration). He even took a Talon TSI boosting 20+psi by 10 cars at 140MPH, and we had 3 people in the car plus his system. Anyways it all depends on the person, their money, and how much power they want. If you do go SC though i'd stay away from the roots blower and get a Centrifigal(did i spell that wrong?) or a whipple blower. They are much more efficent.

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (JettaRacer97)

yeah man ...
turbos are more reliable and cheaper to rebuild ....
i wanna see anyone who will rebuild theit SC to almost a brand-spankin new condition under $1000 ...
with a turbo ..
u can rebuild, modify and fool around with it without killing the damm thing ...
BTW what the overdrive pulley does is make the SC spin faster .... therefore faster wear ...right ???

with a well tuned turbo u will output a nicer streetable hp range that u want and u can adjust it ...
the only down side about turbos are the lag ...
but after that ... good luck... and as highway performance ... lol ...
no sc car will be able to keep up with ur ass ...
i got a 2.0L 16V 9A ... runnin 7 lbs of boost and i literaly raped a Cougar XR7-5speed .... off the line he took off and left me behind 1/2 car lenght ...but after the turbo spooled up ... hey ... and bye ..
flew past him so fast that i almost blew his tires off ...
but first before modifing ur engine either way SC or Turbo ...
take my advice ..
get a better clutch and a quaife or u will be lowin up tranies like nothin ...
i know been there ..done it 2X in a week !!!!

and still im not smat enough to take those steps cause right now im broke ...
so do ur self and ur car a favour and get ur transmision and clutch worked on before doin anything to the engine ... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

magnuson products can rebuid a sc for about 500 bucks and that includes a brand new rotor group and 1 year unlimited milage warrenty....now why dont you show me a factory authorized turbonetics rebuilder who can replace every single piece of a turbo (except the housing)? [like magnuson does]... and get a 12 month unlimited milage warrenty.....and while your at it show me a turbo that can make 20+ psi at 1500 rpms.....my supercharger can do it....can your turbo????????
mine is better than yours, your is better than mine...its all a bunch of crap....we own vw`s and we love our cars thats all that matters

You can purchase a brand new T3 for $635
. But you're right, we all love and drive VDubs, why fight.

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (GTI RB)

you get way more out a turbo than a s/c...plus right now ther eis no s/c for the MKIII's 2.0's so i would have to say turbo...plus you would have way more turnability
Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (Euro Flavor)

Hey joe what kind of SC is that

Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (inovillo)

superchargers are cool, but IMO for a small displacment engine like the 2.0L, an eaton blower is not the best.
i like centrifical SC's, but nobody has one for our cars.
if you NEED a kit, then the SC's avail suck IMHO.
Re: supercharger?? turbo???? (speed51133)

I used to have that old BMS/Paxton supercharger setup on my Jetta before, but it was the old SN series blowers, couldn't change the pulley on them or else it would detonate. Another thing is that most supercharger manufactures will not honor their warranties if you change the pulley supplied on the charger.
