Re: swap automatic to manual tranny. (vwcabby)

Peddle assy, some wiring from the donor car. No need to replace the rack unless you want p/s. shifter, throttle body, axles, and a few extra bits I'm forgetting.

The topic has come up often (OFTEN), the search feature is a weak link.

Have your Bentley manual handy when you do the swap.

Re: swap automatic to manual tranny. (vwcabby)

done it on my corrado but not sure if yours is the same. u need the pedal assembly, slave cylinder (not sure if u need it, but i do), all kinds of different nuts and bolts (don't add up to cheap) , shifter cables, wires, and lots of time and effort. Not worthwhile in my opinion. I won't do it again.

Re: swap automatic to manual tranny. (VR6RedRocket)

well, a 3 speed auto tranny isn't going to add up to much with the new engine thats going in though, thats why i want to swap. if i wasn't putting in 2l 16v i wouldn't give a rats a$$

Why would you need to replace the throttle body?My wife has a 88 cabriolet that formerly had an auto.
Just drop the exhaust, and install the shifter box.Swap out the pedal assym.Put in clutch cable and throttle cable from 5spd.Bolt on clutch and tranny(along with 5spd starter).Start the car and adjust the idle.My wifes car is about to recieve a 2.0 16v and full motronic injection.

Re: swap automatic to manual tranny. (psi)

psi your wife is a lucky woman! i went to the yard and it seem that you prolly need only the break/clutch peddle cluster....the only diff is that the break peddle is smaller and has the clutch peddle attached to it...the gas peddle is totally separate IMO...my question is beside the shifter box, is thin linkage (like long antenna) from the shifter in the small hole toward the firewall the same? I was looking at a jetta and it looked the same...the only diff is on the firewall there mounts a bracket to hold the rest of the linkage arms to actuate the tranny?
