I almost got my sister to buy one. Unfortunatley, it had some sort or engine problem that gave it ZERO power. (on the test drive, it couldn't top 30, brought it back smoking) It was a later 5-speed.

She ended up with a Corsica... oh well.

A freind of mine has a 93 SHO that was really abused by it's PO.
Crappy brakes, and the gearbox left a little to be desired, but it beat the living crap out of my VW without even breathing hard. It was impounded last month and unfortunately he will not be able to afford to get it out. Great cars, SO comfortable, I would like to boost a 1st gen someday.

Fast,comfortable,fairly quiet (until the 2nd set of runners open) and good MPG.
I had a 91. The tranny grenaded at 21k,nice hole in the case. Replaced under
warranty. Sold it to my brother with 70k,it got hit twice in 6 months after that.
Even the t-belt change was not that bad. Quad cam transverse v6 is probably
easier than my Passat will be.

Love the first gen models. I had a 1989 in black with grey interior that was a great car until I ran a 150 shot of NOS and then I started to have all sorts of clutch problems for some reason.

The engine and tranny were great and the sound that the engine made was just musical.....

The V8s have problems with timing chain gears that have lots of owners very, very, very angry.
I like the SHO, but since Contour SVTs are dropping rapidly in price, and they have both a nicer interior and handle better....
