Re: Swiss cheese or not to swiss cheese? (RED1990GL)

You probably wouldn't see any real gains on a stock car...I mean seriously how restrictive is a stock digifant air box? Would A P-flo or other aftermarket open-air intake do much other than raise intake temperatures?

Amen, what clown said. Mine gives a nice roar, not ricey at all. The stock Digi airbox breathes through a 1" diameter snorkel behind pass. headlight. VERY restrictive.

You can just remove the snorkle from the front of the box. Just take the top off the box, then work the horn/snorkle thing out. The reason that its in there is because it acts as a resonator and quites things a little. That opens the intake up to maybe a 2.5" x 3" hole. Which is probably more than it needs. Then if your autocrossing or at some drag stip, pull out your passenger side headlight. That will make a nice direct path for the air to flow in.

I've seen this done on a Fox . . . CHop up the airbox so it will house a K+N cone filter, the existing chooped up airbox acts like a heat shield, and the mounting is very strudy for your MAF sensor . . opinions????

I've swiss cheesed and I got a digi too. Anyways it doesn't sound ricey gives it more of a throaty sound. If you do it make sure you drill holes on the passanger side under the top half of the box. I haven't really seen any gains but sounds cool. And one more thing K&N filters, don't waste your money. My dad works for chrysler, they've done tests at Mopar with these, they may be less restrictive but they let more sh*t through. Plus they are a hell of a lot more expensive. I guess it's up to you but I don't think it's worth it for an extra 1/4 hp haha.
