I'm getting sick of my vent windows whistling all the time, and I'd like to know how hard could it be to switch to the fixed (non opening) vent windows. Did any of the US spec MK1s come with fixed vent windows? Most of the cars from Europe dont seem to have vent windows that open, and I think it looks cleaner that way. Any suggestions?

Yep mine (83 GTI) came with fixed vents.

PITA!! I just put vents into my non-vented caddy - jeez...

drill the rivet at the bottom out, take out the phillips screw at the VERY top of the wing wdo(pull top window channel down for access). then slide it back a little. installation reverse of removal. oh, first thing to do is take the full size window off its track, no clearance otherwise.

Took me like 45 minutes to do both vent glasses to solids on my Caddy.
