Anyone have any thoughts on running a 4" exhaust with the t3/t4 setup?
Will be a full custom with a side exit, after looking closely under my car and taking some measurements I think it may be possible. Would there be any benefits?
I know the Dp couldn't really be any bigger than 3" though maybe 3.5 might just squeeze in there.
Just an idea.......

Re: t3/t4 bigger exhaust? (Boosted VW)

3" is fine for a T3/T4 application.
One of the features I designed into the FM system is the ability to 'upgrade' instead of replacing the entire system, you have the ability to replace only sections of the system to mate with the rest of the system for different things... like different turbos. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
We are working on a different flanged downpipe for the T3-T4 turbo. As more people need this, we will make it avail for purchase. Show your interest here and I might just up the prototyping schedule of it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: t3/t4 bigger exhaust? (DaBlackJetta)

DBJ I have to admit I drool at your system but I am putting all my money into the t3/t4 setup, will need to add an LSD, better drive shafts, plus I want Adrenalins nitrous setup also, I know I am greedy, this is why I am looking at doing a custom setup, and why I was wondering if 4" would give me more.
Truth be said when it comes to car stuff I am a bit of a dummy, I just know how to drive it. Thats why I give all my money to some one else and let them do the work. But hey in the imortal words of Benny Hill " learning all the time "

Feed me Feed me I need to know more LOL

Re: t3/t4 bigger exhaust? (FYGTBUG)

I was reading a thread over on dsm talk that was talking about 4 and 5" exhaust systems and they basically somehow they came to the conclusion that it could cause you to actually lose power. A 3" exhaust system is more than enough for a t3/t4...

It's true that if you go too big you loose power, especially in the lower rpm's. With respect to making horse power, the exhausts job is to produce the minimum back pressure. if you go too big, the exaust gas expands too much and as a result, cools off too much therefore increasing resistance to flow and also back pressure which robs power. The extra surface area of an over sized pipe also contributes to the problem of cooling the egt.
That being said I think a 3inch is about perfect for the t3/t4 making around 300hp or a bit more. The idea of making the exhaust shorter via a side exit is a good plan for power if it doesn't get crushed.
Cheers
Sam
