I picked up a set of used tail lights today to make some DIY reds.
One question: Is it common for the bulb holders (on NA cars so the holes that the bulbs go into) to melt a bit? both lights I picked up have signs of melting in the reverse bulb section. Its not a problem if these are $hit cause I can go exchange them for some other ones, but if this is common I don't care.
I'll check my current ones too.

The lights when I took them off my golf had no melting at all

I would say no when the proper size bulb is used. Sounds like somebody used whatever bulb they had on hand.

^ Yes, Yes, ^ and maybe there was a short somewhere that caused things to overheat a bit.
