Technical difficulties with TT exhaust and chip install....Need your HELP !

561 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  MkIII
need some web pages on installing the TT chip and exhaust or just some Vortex advice please..........
We took off the cat brace (little black brace about 8 inches long and bent) but the nut that connects the straight pipe to the cat is rusted....
- I was thinking of getting a dremel circular blade to attatch to a screwdriver to cut the bracet off --- also i know i dont need welding --- but should i use some sort of exhaust sealant around where the pipes connect??? ps - i have the TT SS cat back with Borla muff. and DTM tips
the TT chip installed seemed easy but i cannot dissconnect the wiring harness bundle from the ECU itself -- its really really tight (stuck) any suggestions??

97 GTI 2.0

thanx guys

You did slide out the locking mechanism for the ECU wiring harness, right? That can be a bitch to slide out, once you do that it's easy to remove.
Sorry, can't help with the exhaust. Not sure I understand the problem though.

The TT exhaust should have come with a little tube of Exhaust Sealant, but if it didn't I would highly recommend getting some. As for the bolt, I dunno, cutting is fine though I don't recall having this problem when I installed mine. In fact, I don't even recall removing that brace.

chip help here... it's where I learned about the slide-lock connector.

only comes with the sealant if 2.5 inch or larger
i stuck to 2.25
plus if you use the exhaust sealant you cant re-adjust the exhaust if it starts to rattle when it breaks in
do you have a 2. or VR ?

Since you are on the east coast how long did it take for your TT to come in once you ordered it? I ordered mine on Friday. Just wondering.

probably 2 weeks (3 max)
may be less because mine had to suffer with Thanksgiving holidays and also i ordered it through a dealer i knew so it took longer

TT exhaust- should be an easy install.. i did mine on my vr6 w/ no problems...2.5" SS w/ borla...as for that bolt, just get some leverage on the wrench and you should be able to break that bolt free...spray it w/ WD-40 too.. it helps.. don't worry about breaking it cuz it might happen, but you don;t even need it for the new exhaust.. at least i didn't, just put the TT straight onto the CAt and bolted it up///... I wouldn;'t used any sealant, don;t think it's neccessary... As for the chip, sometimes the wirin bracket to the ECYU is a little stubborn, it slides off to the side, so jsut be patient with it cuz the ecu is delicate..hope that helps. email me if you jave any other q's...

No, they should have shipped it to you with the 2.25" kit as well. I have the same kit as you do since I've got a 2 litre also. It's just something you do for an exhaust system no matter what the size you install. I wouldnt' say it makes it difficult to adjust either. I adjusted mine a few times without incident. I'd call them and ask them why they didn't ship it with your kit, they may have just left it out on accident.
