Leak down test can certainly be done with the engine out, just rotate the crank to the right position and do it through the glow plug hole (M10x1.0 thread size).
Testing a tdi engine
I have this tdi engine out of the car. The tensioner came loose and i have no way of knowing if the motor is good or not. Can I do a compression test or leak down test to make sure none of the valves are bent. is there anyway to check it without taking the head off.
