"Ferrari Cheat Fees Will Apply", I'm Gonna Copyright That

As I posted earlier, teams would want to know if they could go beyond the boundaries, keep the wins, points and placement and just pay a private fine like Ferrari. Teams would do the math to see if it was worth it.

Renault has struggled mightily with low power and reliability issues. They would love to have some wins and would readily pay a "cheat fee" to get them  Renault's take is, "we're not complaining about it, we just want to know if we can do it too

From Renault's Cyril Abiteboul :

“We have made this joint statement and the FIA has responded. That therefore confirms that their explanation was not clear, otherwise they would not have responded. We haven't had a real answer yet, so we'll be consulting again with the other six teams.

“It is important for us to know what led to this decision. We therefore do not necessarily complain about changing the outcome of their investigation [the settlement behind closed doors], but to understand whether such treatment is also available to others."

https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/1...ce-behind-closed-doors-amid-coronavirus-fears

The 2020 Bahrain GP will be held without fans in attendance due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.

The Grand Prix is set to take place on March 22, a week after next weekend's season-opener in Australia, but with coronavirus cases growing in the Gulf kingdom, Bahrain race organisers say it will only be a televised event.

"In consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom's national health Taskforce, Bahrain has made the decision to hold this year's Bahrain Grand Prix as a participants-only event," a statement read on Sunday.

Ooof. Curious what this means for the teams/season? Didn't Brawn say that if one team could not compete because of travel bans, etc... they would not include the race in the championship (or cancel the race)?

https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2020/03/07/business/07reuters-healthcare-coronavirus-italy.html

ROME — Italy is set to lock down its wealthiest and most populous region, which includes the financial capital Milan, as part of tough new measures expected to be approved on Saturday to try to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

The 11 provinces affected are those around Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini in the region of Emilia-Romagna - Venice, Padua and Treviso in the region of Veneto - Asti and Alessandria in Piedmont - and the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the central region of Marche.

No Fans In The Stands, Wash Your Hands, Champagne Flows From My Glands

Knowing that fans around the works are watching I would guess rgst the champagne will still flow, even if it's just for the teams under the podium. It's as much a celebration of them, the team, as it is anything.

Kimi will be happy, this situation will take away a lot of the PR demands and paddock crowds. They can just focus on the job.

One free trial. One unmatched way to watch. Amplify the adrenaline of the Australian GP for free, with F1 TV Pro.
The cars are faster than ever. The competition is uncomfortably tight. So, who’s going to strike the first blow in Melbourne? It’s anyone’s game. But for you, it’s all win, no lose.
Sign up now to road test F1 TV Pro for 7 days. And have full control of the season launch, for free.

It would be cool to add a poll to this thread polling how many of us F1 fans have purchased the F1 TV for the upcoming season. I bought it when it was discounted to 59.99; how about everyone else?
Same here.

I bought it the first year, but it was awful, complete with spoilers, major delays and glitches. Got a partial refund, ditched them last year, until the ESPN+ app stopped showing anything that did not originally air on ESPN (so if it aired on ESPN2, they wouldn't show it on ESPN+ unless you had a cable subscription). So for the last 4 races I went back to F1TV, and it was much improved but still buggy. Got it again this year, and I'm hoping they have it sorted out. The Roku app is a big help, and hopefully they'll get an Apple TV app soon as well.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/self-isolation-f1-teams-coronavirus/4738310/
Three Formula 1 team personnel have been taken in to self isolation at the Australian Grand Prix while tests are conducted to see if they have coronavirus.

Amid concerns about the impact an outbreak of the virus could have on the tightly-knit paddock, teams are acting with extreme caution to head off the chance of any unwell personnel being able to infect anyone else.

In the wake of some team members showing fever symptoms at the track, a contingency plan has been put in place to deal with the first cases.

One member of the McLaren team, plus two personnel from Haas, have been evaluated at the Albert Park track’s bespoke isolation unit and swab tests have been completed.

With the results of those tests likely to take several hours, both teams have confirmed that their staff have returned to their hotels and been put in to a self isolation condition until it is known if they have caught the virus.

I can't wait until the top three chug their champagne and then lower the bottle to their awaiting mechanics who will then proceed to share the bottle amongst themselves. Let alone someone doing a shoey with Ricciardo (luckily for everyone he's at Renault). Good times.

Year 2 of Danny’s contract. Hopefully the car is competitive and he can make some progress.

#928 · (Edited)
(not so) bold predictions for this season:

Grosjean causes four crashes. One with KMag.
Vettel spins/crashes on his own three times
Renault engine catastrophically fails five times
Hamilton and LeClerc tangle and both go out of the race while fighting for the lead
Ricciardo gets a podium
Verstappen finishes ahead of one Ferrari (Vettel) in the WDC
Racing Point finishes four races in seventh
Ocon and Max almost get into a fight again
Norris out qualifies Sainz 13-9
Kimi swears on the radio at least twelve times in one race

#938 ·
I like to think that a team like McLaren or Mercedes would really like to have Ricciardo for his skill but also for his personality. I mean, he always has such a beaming smile on his face and his energy has to be contagious. I'd love to see him at a team with a competitive car because as others have stated, he is running out of time...

The Red Car

If Vettel tanks again I want to see Ricciardo at Ferrari. It's been the longest tease he was going to Ferrari. It makes sense team wise, Ricciardo can help develop the car and he's dealt with a talented but youthful teammate. Danny has a leveler head and better race craft than Vettel, Ricciardo and others thinks he's better too.

It would be good for the sport and the racing in general to have Danny in red.

The race will get cancelled or held behind closed doors.
Even Lewis and Kimi said in interviews this morning the race should be cancelled.

Interesting times...

Didn't they announce earlier that they wouldn't hold the race if a team has to drop out? I'm afraid the whole season is in jeopardy :(
I think their fine print was they would cancel if a team wasn't allowed into the venue/country. Not if a team decided to not enter the race. But not sure if they change that today?
