Best quote ever! "It would take a crosswired star trek replicator to make a left-hand-drive GT-R for the U.S." Excellent article. That brings me back to the god old days man. 1995 is like the 1969 of my generation. We had Duke Nukem, Google, Play Station and they still made cool cars!

I agree
.
I also have that magazine. And Don Schroeder died in 2000, 5 years later, while driving a RENNtech Mercedes. I think it was the same RENNtech E-class C&D had built in '98 out of their long-term E320 tester (I have that issue as well), but it may have been another car (the E320-based V12 was clocked at 198mph and had 620hp in the '98 issue, but they were going to re-test it later due to a computer code cut-out).

WTF were they even thinking, taking a Supra with rear wing through a car wash?!?
Like it could have possibly had any other outcome...

I think Google started in '98 actually. I do recall Gran Turismo coming out in '97 though. Man, I remember that game changed everything.

Nope, both cars were RENNtech... Just not sure if they were the same car, as the crash may have been in a CLK (as per some further research). The '98 E320 was converted into a RENNtech E7.4.
This is it:

It wouldn't be too long after this that tuners in the UAE figured out how to make LHD versions, while a Finnish enthusiast built a LHD R32.
No one will ever build cars like this again.
There will be bigger and better things, but this reminds me why I'm not much for nostalgia. Too depressing.
