As we all know NOPI Nats happens in early september.
in conjuction with the MDPC, im setting up a cruise to nopi nats(2days), registering to be IN nopi nats and then swinging by deals gap on the way home. This goes down in september, but im starting the ball NOW. the amount of logistical planning thats going to have to go into this is huge, so i need all the time i can get to find out whos in for what and whats happening.
i think everyone knows Nopi nats, so i wont explain.
Deal's Gap: The dragon and Cherohala skyline drive. GORGEOUS drive, and the dragon houses in its 11 mile bredth three hundred and twenty hair bending turns. let me repeat that: 320 turns in 11 miles so tight semi trucks are forbidden BY LAW to drive on it
on the way home from deals gap we will hit Blueridge parkway for some more beautiful skyline drive scenery. at deals gap we will stay at fontana village for 2 nites, and have access to their meeting rooms etc etc, we usually do a camp fire/story tell one night and a BBQ the other.
What i know so far: this trip isnt cheap, but its not out-rageous. in the 4 days you will probably spend about $250 on gas alone. food you are on your own. fontana village is fairly reasonable hotel, especially for groups, and they are very accomodating. on nopi, im planning on sleeping in the car at least one day.
as in another thread: there will be age restictions on the DEAL'S GAP portion. nopi anyone can roll, as it wont be "organized" perse. as it sits right now, the age for deal's gap is 18+ and the onlything that will change that is fontana village age requirements for unsupervised resort stays. in the event they require 21+, 18+ can still come, but will need to find someone that will act as caregiver and assume responsibility that is over 21+, and will be handled case by case.
i will have more information comming in weekly on updates. i understand this is preliminary, but as i said, this isnt something that can be left to the last minute to plan. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif ive made this trip before, and it was absolutely the most fun ive ever had in my life. TN/NC deals gap area is absolutely beautiful with some really really fun roads and the entire caravan/trip turns out to be a VERY good time. this is really something you dont want to miss for sure. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
again, i cant stress how much fun and how beautiful this trip is...SO START PLANNING!!!!! THIS IS THE VACATION OF A LIFE TIME! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

one of the "milder turns" of the dragon...

Re: The biggest cruise and meet of your life is comming....... (KurtP)

In approximately 2-3 weeks, when i have all the hard facts i need, i will have a "planning party" for those interested. i have video footage and pictures that are really quite good(assuming i can still find them...
) if you think you might be interested, start looking into upgrading your brakes and tires now. i suggest slotted and cross drilled rotors and upgraded pads at a minimum. ive seen several sets of brakes catch fire, and stock kits will be faded in no time flat.
again, this is very preliminary, but i want people to start thinking about it now.

thanks for the contribution http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif this guy is an obvious expert on the situation, whereas i only go by what my lawyer, the resort owners, dragon monitors and the TN/NC highway patrol tell me.

we'd really have to do brake/tire upgrade for this type of trip?
not that i don't have plans to do a brake upgrade in the future, but depending on when this trip would be, that might be difficult to pull off.

you dont "have to" but i suggest it. it doesnt have to be a stage 3 @ 1k or anything but i would AT LEAST have better pads. but after the experiences of previous trips brakes get weak, catch fire and warp rotors. i would have better tires that stock if possible. dont get me wrong, a stock car can go and have a good time on this, its not like this is a timed race or anything, i just suggest it.

Kurt,
I hope that when you say $250 in gasoline, that's for unleaded peoples! J/k! I'm a diesel and probably if I have a light enough acceleration pedal, I hope that with my TDI it will not cost more than say $150 for fuel.

kurt you do realize that Blue Ridge Mountian Parkway and Skyline Drive combined are 517 miles long and does not include Great Smoky Mountians National Park.... that will take 2 days in itself to drive, and Skyline Drive is $7 per person to enter because it is the main attraction of Shenandoah National Park..... not trying to slow your roll, but just giving you a heads up on that.

Re: The biggest cruise and meet of your life is comming....... (n2o)

certain parts. ill sit down and explain the whole deal when its a face to face setting. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif good to see some good response!! the village at deals gap is camping only in a hotel w/ showers, which i love. its in the middle of the valley with no surrounding suburb or metropolis. its right in the woods!! cabins are an option.

Re: The biggest cruise and meet of your life is comming....... (2NYS4YA)

yea sounds like a plan, and i've always wanted to hit up NOPI....
btw, from past experiences in organizing 70+car mountain/canyon runs in southern cali, it is a very good idea to have a waiver of sorts to hand out prior to departing on any drive/cruise/whatever, infact, we did it in san diego for just bout everything we did, because if something DOES happen, IT CAN come back on the organizer, especially when doing something that is potentially quite dangerous(the dragon for instance, especially at those "officially unrecomended above posted speed limit speeds").
as far as the age thing goes, if it matters i fall into the 18-21 category, and if needed i doubt it would be a problem for me to bring someone over 21...
keep me posted on this!! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
