Finally built AR #1 this past weekend. Missing the trigger guard, which should be arriving this week. Handed it to a buddy who really knows guns and he was surprised at how light it was. I haven't weighed it complete yet, but I didn't go for a lightweight gun, just an inexpensive one. It's not the cheapest you could build, but I think I'm around $650ish without sights/optics. Free-float 15" handrail, ambi charging handle (Raptor), ambi safety, and adjustable stock are the "upgrades." 16" on Aero upper and Anderson lower.

Pics will come when fully complete. Then I gotta find someplace where I won't freeze to shoot it.

Searching for parts for AR #2, which is going to be a lefty. Unfortunately, I can't get all the parts right now, so many are out of stock.

Ordered the LPK, handrail and misc bits for AR #2, so I can get most of it done. I might just finish the upper I do have and make do until the lefty parts come available.

Do you know how the new ammo BGC BS law works if you go to a range and buy ammo there to use there at that time? I'm sure there is a processing time, just wondering how long that is and how that BS works?

Not sure... they may have exemptions for that.

^ I tend to bring my own to the range unless renting (as in testing a potential purchase), but it would be nice to not have to lug around the heavier stuff like shotgun shells, etc.

I think a few of us are going to participate in the GSSF events and I'm going to need a 19 or 17. Wife will also probably want one, too, and shoot both full size and pocket w/ the 43.

GSSF events. 17 might be an option, I'm not sure. But I think I like the flexibility of CC with the 19.

update: Digging around (I'm not paying attention like I used to for new gun releases) I think the G48 would be the perfect one for my wife and I'd go with the 19 or 17. She loves the 43 and doesn't really need/want the excess weight. Having the 10+1 of the 48 and slightly longer sights should help the 60' shots at the GSSF events.

When the daughter moved out, her room has been vacant, and tons of s**t left. Slowly cleaning it out, we want to turn it into a library/office. The closet will store the stuff we have to keep (because memories), but it's a pretty big walk-in closet. So I'm thinking I'll get a better door lock (a keypad or similar) and turn it into a gun room.

It's about 50" wide, and about 8' long.

I'll build a workbench at one end, and then put some sort of pegboard where the guns and supplies will hang.

I don't have a moisture problem, and the room is on a 2nd floor, so no chance for smash & grab. Obviously the main weakness is the closet door, but overall, it's no different than the small safes we currently have. Eventually we're going to upgrade the doors in the house, and I can add one in for this closet. I can move the box of excess stuff I have in the garage, consolidate the stuff in the safes and nightstands, and have it all in one decent room. It would be so nice.

And yes, I've always wanted to be able to have those gun rooms they have in movies... this will have to do (for now). :laugh: My b-i-l built a small room in his garage for it, but he's an organizational disaster. I don't have a big garage (19x20 if that), so building a room is a no go. My current garage goal is to park 2 cars in it.

If I get real handy, when we build the library, I can probably work it out so one of the bookcases opens as the closet door. Sneaky.

Picked up a G17 this weekend. And discovered WA's new f**king purchasing laws.

Concealed Pistol License holders were exempt from the waiting period, but not anymore. Beginning last year, EVERYONE has to wait. Dealers no longer run the 4473s, the local LEOs do. :banghead:

And from what I understand, starting in July, AR lowers will fall into this category, too.

Update: Why I chose the 17-

The dealer had G19 (G4 & G5) and G17 (G5). I didn't like the finger grooves of the G4, they're not spaced out right for my hand. Maybe if I wore gloves, but I'm not Michael Jackson. The weight also felt better with the 17.

Just bought a Fenix TK20R for our 870. Anyone have experience with that light and especially for that purpose? What else is popular that is rechargeable? Am planning on the mount made by Fenix, great price. Any other recommendations? Edit: also eyeballed their PD36R.

I'm partial to Streamlight since my buddy works for them. They have batteries that are recharged via USB.

I'm not against saving money, but from what I've seen, the top two light brands are Surefire and Streamlight.

Both brands you mention are high quality. Surefire just seems so expensive for what it is. Of my 7 or 8 friends that are cops, I believe all but 2 use Surefire. Streamlight is nice. My wife and I both use their AAA penlights at work for Neuro checks, etc. It has a sleeve for focusing the beam and creates a very important sharp cut-off. I'll revisit Streamlight to see (not a pun) if they have something shorter than that Fenix and as bright. I'm sure they'll have something similar.

Finally swapped the Hogue furniture onto the 870. Having a helluva time taking out the original extractor. Any advice? I have a machined one to go in instead of the MIM original.

I don't plan on taking it on airplanes, but most likely the Earth F**ker on long trips. And of course shooting/range trips.
