I want to be the first (i think) to say that I have had no problems with creaking, window reg's, lights, idle, parts breaking, etc, after 2000 miles of ownership. The car had 8000 mi. on it when I got it. I'm so tired of hearing the complaining lately, it's like were all nutty about our cars one moment then it's a big pile of s**t shaped like a hatchback. *Everything* has problems, but we should deal with what we can and educate ourselves on everything else. Don't get pissy with service people even when they are jerks, take pics of your car before you leave it with someone, and be happy you even have a vehicle, let alone one with such history behind it. I love my car, even if it turns out to be a lemon I'd hate to see it go, but you know what....I'd go right back and get another one
You're not the first, sorry to burst your bubble, I'm at 22K and not a problem yet
And I'm sure I'm not the first either. People on this forum care about their cars and they're going to complain about every little thing. Me included. Thankfully, I haven't had to (yet).
I've had my car since Nov 4/00 and so far I've had the driver's side air bag replaced, the stock CD player replaced and the driver's side external mirror replaced.
Having said that I'm still totally happy with the car. It gets ~1100km per tank, its whisper-quiet (compared to my 94 Trans Am - summer car), comfortable, fast to wash (like 30 minutes or less), good looking and the stock stereo really rocks (which is saying something considering what I have in the T/A)!
My $0.02.
You must feel like sunshine today! Hate to repeat it but you are soooooo jinxed now.
I once e-mailed a radio personality (we'll keep nameless) to let her know how great my marriage was and how I could not believe how many people whined and cried over failed relationships and how lucky I was to have a good wife... I guess you can imagine the rest... I was divorcing not too long after... Now that's jinxed!!!
Hope you enjoy many years of problem free driving and keep up the great attitude when your service person becomes your best friend.

Yes you did! Let me tell you my story, I too posted to one of these saying I had no problems with my car, then my car hit 20K on the odo and things really changed. I've had 6 things go wrong with it since and no extended warranty either
I hope you didn't just jinx yourself, but hey its a VW so I'm sure something will go wrong.

know on wood , ditto 20,700k... less than year though (8.5 months
You're all doomed! My glovebox cover went last night! I was just there a week ago to have my pass side regulator replaced too (The drivers side went at the begining of the summer). Atleast it's not anything mechanical. ..doh.. now I doomed myself!
2002 GTI 198 miles so far... new motor(covered by VW warranty),new clutch master cylinder(covered by VW warranty) and on the way new GTI also covered by VW! I've already made my first car payment! I can't wait to get one that only has window regulator problems!
i drove 38miles and my front driver window went *swoosssshhh.. SMASH*
got it fixed... and 2 weeks later the passanger window did the same thing... 2 weeks later i get my car broken into.. the front driver and passanger window smashed, and its raining outside and have like ehh.... rain damage everywhere
but its ok.. the guys got caught, i got my car fixed.. the end
It's funny to see group psychology work it's magic. A jinx huh....You know if I wait around long enough something bad will happen, now why can't we think about something good happening. I may seem overly optimistic but thats how I am. Like I said before, stuff is gonna break, just like how we get sick or hurt, if you use it eventually something goes. And for you people who think you're immune to the bugs cause you got a 2002.....Never buy a car as soon as it comes out even if it isn't a completely new model. There will always be bugs and gripes so suck it up and get the warranties. If it "costs too much" to get some extra security, you should buy a cheaper car. Flame me cause I love my car and live in reality
