Don't worry, if Audi is offering it now on their lower end models that means that VW will follow late this year, maybe starting with the 2005 models of the Phaeton / Touareg and the B6 Passat.

It would be worth delaying a touareg purchase to have the better nav with mp3 support.

SD card support would be fantastic. 512 mb SD cards are about $135 today. You can probably fit 8 CDs of mp3 music on a 512 mb card. And 4 of them side by side would be the size of a credit card.

I would forgive all other NAV problems (missing data for some areas, CD based...) if there were MP3 support. I rip all of my CDs in to MP3 and store the original disk and since 120 GB hard drives are about $85 right now, I can afford to store them there and use an SD card for portable media.

You could use the MP3 player I just got my son for Christmas; NEX iA http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...11024
and pipe it into the nav system's aux. Uses compact flash cards, which are even cheaper than SD cards. For just over $100 it's a surprisingly nice player.
