(read in whiney voice)
So I get in the Jetta this morning and I notice there's a small dark stain on the passenger seat. With a damp towel I wiped it off and sure enough it was mostly gone. To make sure I got all of it I scrubed a little harder. Suddenly the stain was back and worse then before! I thought there was something on the towel so I got another one that was totally clean- same thing happened. I'm assuming something got down in there and is staining the seat from the inside.
The seats are grey velour- anyone had a problem like this before? What's a good product to clean it off with?

Re: The phantom stain (Gremlin)

you could try a drycleaning solvent. try blotting and don't rub. this should do it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: The phantom stain (jackimoe)

The stain was the result of the substance being very wet and penetrating into the foam.
What you are seeing is it "wicking" back up from the foam.
Next time, don't get the fabric so wet, as that will wet the foam and create the wicking action.

Re: The phantom stain (ketch)

thanks guys-
here's what I did, and so far it's worked.
I found this cleaning solvent from oreck (that company that makes the light weight vacuums) The stuff foams on to the seat and then slowly seeps into it. Then I take this powder the oreck guy gave me and sprinkle it onto the seat. I let it sit overnight and the powder wicks the foam (with the stain) back up to the top

Pretty cool stuff.
