would it be beneficial to wrap my lower IC pipe w/ some thermo wrap?? i guess at best it might keep temps in the pipe a little cooler on hot days. Has anyone ever tried this? Also would it be useful to thermo wrap my down pipe?? just some food for thought

yes, wrapping the DP would help keep that heat away from the engine and from what i understand the hotter air inside the DP helps with the flow of the air. Only bad thing i've ever HEARD about thermo wrap is if oil gets on it, it can catch on fire.
Thats why i've never done it yet.

wont anything crack under there? heh i hear people thermal wrapping their headers for other cars and they tend to crack. The lower IC pipe wrapping might be cool though.

If you are refering to Honda headers and stuff, they are thin and made of crappy materials..believe me, I had one. The additional heat that is kept in by the thermo wrap causes the cracking to the ****ey headers. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

I would'nt wrap the intercooler pipe because you are trying to loose heat from inside the pipes. The temp in the pipes is higher than the engine compartment so i don't think this would be a benefit unless you are trying to prevent heat soak when the car is idling. The idea of keeping exhaust temps high and engine bay temps down is excellent, but i wouldn't do it with a wrap. I would ceramic coat the down pipe. this would help keep exhaust flow high and prevents corrosion of the down pipe.It also would help keep underhood temps down and both of these are good for power.
Cheers

From Maximum Boost:
"It is generally not feasible to directly wrap the exhaust manifold with an insulating material, as the manifold material itself will overheat to the point of structural failure."
He points out it's better to wrap the things you want to keep cool rather than wrap the things that generate heat such as the manifold, turbo, etc.
