They can't find my GTI in all of Canada.. believable??

My dealership called me yesterday saying that they've had no luck finding my 02 indigo blue GTI (black leather, 5 spd) in all of Canada. If they have to ship in a new one for Germany, it would take 5-6 months. Is this believable?? They said they'll know by today for sure whether they can get one or not and they're trying to get me to go for another color. But I have a feeling they just don't want to have to bring it over from another province, when they can just get another color from a local dealership. I strongly believe when buying a car that you should go for exactly what you want, or you might end up regretting it later. Should I go for another color or threaten to cancel the deal? Opinions please

on tuesday i saw an indigo blue gti sitting in the vw staging lot at credistone and hwy 7!

Don't settle for another color! Especially when we are talking about Indigo Blue! Don't worry, in time you'll have your GTI.

There is no way inidgo blue GTi is not available in entire Canada.
Do they think you were born yesterday???

I had problems finding a reflex silver one early in the 2001 model year because of an interruption in supply (switchover from german to brazilian plants), but with alot of persistence i DID find one...
I am in NJ and the car was in Wichita Kansas.... Still, i got exactly what i wanted...
Can you also buy from US sealers along the border? Is that an option?

there are a few differences between us and canadian cars that make that solution impossible

I also had trouble finding my Indigo Blue GTI with the specs I wanted. When the local dealers couldn't get what I wanted in a timely fashion (gave them a week), I started using VW's dealer sites to locate the car myself. I ended up driving a couple of states a way to get what I wanted, but like you, I wanted something specific and wasn't going to settle.
I used VW's dealer locator to go to dealer websites and check their inventory. When I found a dealer with what I wanted less than 5 hours away I called them up. They were more than happy to sell the car (on the showroom floor) to an out-of-stater. Most of the dealer websites (US anyway) have an inventory section to show you what they've got in stock.

Logic people,WHY wouldnt they want to sell a Indigo Blue car to a customer.I'm assuming they were'nt asking a "finding bonus" so the rarity of the options and colour you wanted the car was probably out of stock.So the basis that VW dealerships are crooked is somewhat bias.The delivery time for another Indigo blue into Canada is laughable (5 months?) but the avaliablitly of that colour I'm not doubting because it is a sweet colourWhen I leased my 2002 1.8T Galatic Blue Jetta with the tip and sports package they had to get the car from Montreal,Toronto dealerships were completely out of stock of that colour and option package.

thanks for the input guys. I think what's going on is they ahven't found any locally and they don't want to go through the hassle of shipping from out of town. It's not like I'm asking for a rare car here, I'm not going to give in. I've already told them I don't want any other color so lets hope when they call me today they'll have good news
Also, regarding shipping them in from Germany, i find it impossible to believe it takes 5-6 months! Think about it, if a dealership contacts them saying they've already sold the car but don't have one available, would the plant tell them to wait that long to get the car to a customer. That's insane. I can understand a few weeks to get the car over here, but no way in h3ll am I waiting 5-6 months. I'd get an 03 GTI if i wanted to wait that long

My dealership just called and confirmed they can't find a single indigo gti in all of Canada, and it'll be 6 months before one arrives

I told them I don't really want another color and I'm considering cancelling. I'll call them back later today.. I don't know what I'm going to do now. I don't really want to cancel because we worked out a good deal.. I'm now considering maybe a red GTI or a blue (galactic/lagoon) Jetta.. They're all great cars don't get me wrong, but i'm still

Listen:
Call more dealerships within any radius you are willing to travel. The dealerships KNOW that they can sell a manual GTI so a lot of them will hide their inventory and lie to dealers who want to trade. I had the same problem and I wish now that I would've been more persistant.

I waited about 5 months for my car. Apparantly not many Tornado Red GTIs with the 17" wheels were being produced when the 2001s rolled out. (Pretty easy to find after I got my car, though...). However, I waited and got one--exactly what I wanted! Sure, you can wait for a 2003, but you're still picking something off the lot, which may not have exactly what you want. Wait if you can, unless you need a car immediately.
And why would the dealer say it's coming from Germany? North American GTIs are built in Brazil.

yeah, i agree. I find it hard to believe that there isn't a GTI with the options you want in all of Canada. Don't settle for less, call around.

I'm going to call around. Would I have to buy from another dealership since they're not willing to trade?
Regarding Germany, they didn't say where from. They just said they had to import and I wrote Germany.

Whatever you do...do NOT settle for another color. You are paying for a brand new car and you should get everything that you want in it or you will regret it laer. My friend was impatient on getting his Jetta and he is now hating himself for not waiting.

I know, I really do'nt want to settle for another color. But 6 months is a damn long time.
If anyone in the GTA passes a dealership with an Indigo GTI please let me know!

I am sure they just want you to buy one from their inventry, that's hard to believe
