Thinkin' of buying a 99 VR6

I found a VR6, with 40,000 miles and its a 1999 model. It has nuespeed exhaust, and the used car lot selling it does not have a history, he bought the car at an auction. Is there a site I can check the VIN?
Also, when I went there, he said it was priced 13,000, but then I said I saw it on autotrader for 12,590 and he said that was the battled price. He also said it was hit, he doesn't know where but he thinks the drivers side.
My dad says he will let me borrow money for the car if I get him down to $11,000ish. I still have 7 months untill I need a car, but this is the cheapest MKIV VR6 I found. Infact, its even cheaper than MKIV Golfs on autotrader.
There was one thing I wasnt too sure about. The inside of the Nuespeed exhuast (I dont know which model, but it was dual tip, pointing up) was black in soot, and as the car started, very little black smoke came out, it wasn't very notice able. Is this normal? Could it be low octain gas? Removed catalytic conveter? Or a damaged engine? I'm going to test drive the car, anything I should look for when I drive it? It's got beige leather interior, and alloys but no cd, which doesnt bother me because I would probably put a top end CD player in anyways. What should I do? Good price?
EDIT - clear title By the way

Check your VIN at:

I wouldn't buy it because it was hit.
Find something else.
Check the Carfax report it will tell you everything.

Carfax can only tell you what's been reported

Re: Thinkin' of buying a 99 VR6 (Mindflux)

I checked carfax, and I personaly think it's a waste of money. It just said three things on the car, it was registered at 15 miles, and inspected at 29,000. Said NO ACCIDENTS, no flood damage, no fire damage, etc. Nothings wrong with the car. So, if the dealer never told me it's been hit, how would I know? Do you think I can find a VR6/1.8T with 40,000 miles for 11,000?

Very normal. My Magnaflow has the same silt in its tips. No problem at all.
Your price is good, but I would get the accident checked out. Spend $50-100. to have someone look over it with a fine-toothed comb. Don't let a deal that's too good to be true get the better of you. Most deals like that are too good to be true.
Good luck

Can you also see some exhuast when the car idles? Exhuast sounded very nice at start up!
So 12,500 is a good price for this car? My uncle has a repair shop so I guess if the person lets me test drive it for 1 hour I can take it to his garage and have him put it on a lift, see if it's bad. Both the passanger and driver's seat had wrinkles on the sides in the leather. It only looked bad because they were dirty, but I saw the car right after they got it, and it was being detailed. Is this how it came? I can't imagine it being worn because they both looked the same. Usually the drivers seat is very warn.
gitee - thanks for keeping your eye open, It's just too far from me.
Carfax says they don't get all police reports, some states don't give them reports.
Re: Thinkin' of buying a 99 VR6 (Porsche911T)

I'd say be careful with any car when 1) it has fairly extensive mods (probably been driven hard 2) the car has been hit 3) buying from someone (dealer or private party) who can't give any history on the car. The problem with just checking the VIN, as someone says, is only REPORTED issues will show up. Even if the price is right, watch it...

I never see exhaust coming from mine ever. If I start it up, pull it out of my garage and stop it to shut the garage door, there are no exhaust fumes. Mine has about 18k mi. on it.
Tell him you want your uncle to take a look at it at his shop. If he says no, then you know he's trying to put one over on you.
Re: Thinkin' of buying a 99 VR6 (Porsche911T)

skip it, be patient.
The black smoke on startup could be leaky injectors, or maybe due to a chip richening up the mixture a bit.
You don't want a car that's hit, it'll come back to bite you in the ass.
Try to find a car that's stock. The chances are better that it hasn't been raced or beat on as much.
Just be patient and you'll find the car of your dreams. We had one selling here on base the other day, I think it was a 2000, or 2001 VR for 15,000. Don't know the milage but it sure was pretty.
