I'm getting rid of my '01 Jetta VR6 in favor of a '97 or '98 GTI VR6. I'm wondering what the difference is all around, especially in terms of the engine hp and torque ratings (stock). My Jetta has 174hp, 180 lb-ft of torque... is this the same VR6 power as in the '97-'98 GTI models, or was there significant change in the move from A3 to A4 designs?
Also, is that nice throaty growl of the VR6 still present in the older GTI.
TIA...

actuall the older VR6's have 172hp and 173 ft-lbs of torque you can't tell the difference though and the older cars are faster,
oh and for that throaty growl, it started with GTI......

I have a 95 Jetta VR6, I threw on a cold air intake and that made it sound real mean when I got on it. Added some ponies too, don't know much about the GTi though.
