I'm talking about this one, costed me a bit more then $100 (in canadian):

Gripes:
1) Looks cheap, feels cheap. The black rubber band easily rubs and come off. CHEAP!
2) There is no place for the leather to go, it wanted me to use a tie zip to zip it against the white adapter thingy, so the leather's got no choice but to get crumbled up all twisted near the shift knob. REAL CHEAP.
3) When I was screwing the knob against the shifter stick, those hex screws on the shift knob seems to be digging out the threads (I don't know a better way of saying this...I mean that I can't tighten the hex screw any further because it keeps on killing the threads on the gear shift knob, and I'm not even using a lot of force!! So the next time I take it out I don't think I can tighten it again since the threads seems to be smoothed/killed). Horrible quality.
4) The instructions would have been drawn/written better if it were done by a chimpanzee. SIGH.
Thanks VW for flushing my $100 down the toilet http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif I should have kept the stock knob.

Re: Those of you with a Votex shift knob: didn't it feel cheap????? (BananaCo)

Well that being my car I have some opinions of it.....
Since you bought it at dealership, you should have gotten them to put it on, mine needed 3 techs and they all kept bitching about the instructions he he, don't feel so bad now do you?
First impression before I put it on, $100Cdn for this??? I'd have expected more for $100. It feels cheap.
After having it on for 8 months, um, it feels pretty good and comfortable, you get over the cheap feeling after driving with it for awhile because it just takes some getting used too, I live in Central Canada so we do get some cold in the winter
and I'd have to say that plastic does warm up sooo much faster than if it were real metal because it doesn't retain the cold very well. It has a rubber ring around side which takes some getting used to cause all ya wanna do is roll it up and down.
Overall I'd have to say that although first impressions weren't great that I'm satisfied with it now after using it over the stock one.

HAHAHAH exactly!!!! Someday eventually I'll roll that sucker out of the knob.

oh and sorry for stealing your pic.

I hope I'll grow to like it...but as an advice to fellow vortexers, unless you REALLY LOVE the design of this knob...don't get it. just not worth it.

I have the aforementioned knob, and I actually really like the feel. The fact that the leather doesn't fit on it anywhere (hence the ziptie approach) really sucks, but as far as look and feel, I quite like it. I didn't, however, have to pay for it.................

After getting my car serviced one time I found the rubber ring at the bottom of the shifter
I'd have made them pay for a new ring, and I doubt you can order that separately he he.
I don't mind you using pic at all, it'd be stealing if you took and sold it or used it to make money.

I really do like it now, think about this, if you hadn't physically held the shifter before you put it in and got VW to put it in for you, would you still think the same, cause like I said before I like it alot now, nice and smooth and doesn't freeze in really cold weather.

I got rid of my original knob, and I actually like my new MOMO not just for looks, but it's a bit bigger. The original was a bit too small I thought.

I got rid of the cheesy silver votex knob and put on a big fatty momo too. The all leather round one. I love it. Feels beefy and strong. (grunt) http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
And if anyone wants my votex knob, make an offer.

I swear, I saw exactly that knob - same look and feel, same font - in a "factory-modded" Chevy Cavalier at an auto show. You know, bright yellow, body kit, other junk to make you think it wasn't a crappy Chevy Cavalier
My point is, are you sure it's Votex, and not some no-name OEM that supplies these to Votex?
I had the OEM wood one and sold it. It was too slippery, and wood trim was just wrong in a GTI. I upgraded to "Sport Edition" trim, including the shift knob - I goes perfectly with my Silver/Black GTI http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

yep, the thing did feel kinda cheap @ first (WHY CAN"T THAT BE ALUMINUM FOR 100+ dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but after a while u get used to it, the rubber band fell off, and I had to break several things to put the stupid thing on (it'd be better if they just gave you a picture of the completed product, bcuz u can't tell Jack from the little illustrations) Anyway, I'll be checkin' around for a replacement.

I was actually looking at that knob but I went with the Reiger Illuminated knob. And it was cheaper through the Vortex shipped to me! I love it and it feels really nice.

I know I need to clean my car, but why in this weather!

where is Roger?

Roger Moore got me this OE Euro piece a year or two ago and I am still lovin' it. Hi quality...no one would complain about it. I like the leather and it is a bit less grippy when compared to the OE US shift boot. The chrome bezel trim ring also is a nice/simple accent in the interior.
$45 IIRC.
